Ok, with all due respect, why would you buy an older, diesel, TRUCK to save gas? Even if it is a diesel, it wont help you THAT much. I used to have a BADASS CTD with everything you could imagine on it and I went straight back to my baby (07 HEMI which gets 23.5 mpg highway, everyday on the trip to work). You obviously like the diesel a lot. Get one if you like it, they are a TON OF FUN! But honestly, I dont think there fair is a comparrison here. orange=apple? Come on! If gas is truely your motivation then.....I dare say it but buy an old 22re toyota pickup. You will get 25-30mpg, be a tad safer than a tiny piece of crap. Best of all you dont have to give up the truck factor, (although that isn't much of a truck).

P.S. the best part is that you can just dump oil in! Just like everyone else!!!! dont even change the filter!

It's all about RPM's. If you drive 65 in a diesel, mileage is great. If you drive 65 in a Hemi, mileage is great.

If you drive 75 in a Hemi, mileage is still okay. The extra RPMs in a diesel at that speed makes the mileage start to tumble.

Diesels are for low RPM grunt.

If you are disciplined and can drive 65, I think you're good with gas

Theres 1 thing i totally forgot to mention. That truck is a 99. In the last couple years our wonderful EPA started screwing with diesel. The 99 was designed to run on regular sulfur content. You cant buy that ANYWHERE cuz its no longer made. 500 ppm and 15ppm is all you can get. Both JUNK. Bad milage and no power. Within 2 years you wont even be able to get 500 ppl diesel. Anything 07 CANNOT run 500 ppm either without wrecking it. My rig is a 2001 with a cummins N14 made to run regular sulfur content fuel. With 500 ppl fuel i lost 2 mpg. Pretty bad for a vehicle that got 6.5 to begin with. If you really want a diesel for cool factor, fuel or whatever, i wouldnt get anything older than an 07 just for that fuel sulfur content.
