Whining noise comin from pulley?
I recently was up north fishin and the two-track that lead back to parking for the river was pretty soaked. I didn't go nuts and fly through it all, but I was certainly splashin around. On my way home from the site, ol girl started making a whining noise under acceleration from one of the accesory pulleys up front. I've lubed all of em, changed the belt, and the tensioner for starters, but the sound persists. You guys got any ideas? Everything else is in running order, alternator makes power, water pump keeps me cool, power stearing still leaks (how many of you gen 3 ers have had that prob forever too?) and everything else seems in running order. I'm just freakin baffled. Any ideas are appreciated.
Btw. This is my first post on this site. It looks pretty sweet with some cool cats on it too. Hope to take advantage of the site mor ein the future.
Thanks again for any help.

probably got some water and/or debris inside/behind a pulley. maybe the ac compressor pulley? cause that one's like a clutch or something, so i could imagine something getting in there and causes a wine...maybe if it's just water.
Nope, the whine is pretty consistent. That's why I ruled out the power stearing. No noises when I stear or anything like that. I have a feeling water with some silt from the dirt road got in somewhere, I just keep racking my head cause i've inspected and lubed all of em. I hope it's not the a/c compressor.
Hey man,
I had a similarsound coming frommy truck, and it turned out to be a bad bearing on the idler pulley. I had noclue where it was coming from though. If thats your problem better get it fixed because mine ended up shredding my belt one day on my way to work when the pully failed. Not a good start to the day.

try spinning the alternator by hand, take the belt off. bad bearings in there can squeal or whine and the water may have caused the bearing to fail

You called it bro! I replaced the lower idler pulley (which at first I thought was a pulley from the water pump. i'm a dumb ***, we got elctric ones!) and that was the problem. Put a new belt on while at it too. Thanks for the input bro!

Took off the belt and spun everything on the top end and sprayed with silicone to see if I could isolate the problem.
Still made noise though so I slid underneath and lubed the lower pully and that took care of the noise for about 5-10 seconds. Noise is back and I need to change that pully now.
Where does one get one of those?
I got one from the dealer for 26 bucks. Took all of about 5 minutes from getting the toolbox out to being all washed up.
I have a nice little collection going of parts I've changed out on this truck already. Every time I look at it, I get angrier.
It's not bad enough that I'm putting 100 bucks of gas in it per week but another 25-30 bucks in parts per week now too.
