push button start
ORIGINAL: kdkuhns3
i have exactly what you want in my truck. designed and built it myself over the last couple years. its pretty much an aftermarket version of what the nissans have. walk up to it and it unlocks, jump in and hit the cig lighter to start it. hit the lighter again to stop it. security is tight too. i put an alarm/keyless/remote start combo in it to take care of that. you open the door, hit the button or the break when armed and the alarm goes off, and the truck won't start. and it still has all the factory safety features too, wont start in gear, fuel shut off if alarm triggered. only problem is the steerin wheel doesnt lock, due to the fact i removed the key cylinder completely.

First off, I did a lot of research at the12volt.com. I'm not sure I can explain the push on push off part, it consists of 7 relays and is quite complicated. But a one switch one button setup is farely easy to pull off. The first thing you have to do is eliminate the key by eliminating the mechanical part of the ignition switch. This is acheived using 5 relays all tripped at the same time by the switch. I dont know that your truck has the same exact wiring, so you would need to get a complete manual for your truck to know what wires to connect where.
I think I understood it that the switch you have in your truck is to kill the starter, correct? Well this can be achieved without a switch by running the starter wire through a relay. Then hook the positive side of the relay to the oil pressure guage wire that runs into the back of the cluster. Its a real nice antigrind trick.
Let me know if you have any questions. I'm sure there wil be.
