Default push button start

I am wanting to install a keyless push button ignition in my 02 Ram. I know how to install one that requires a key, but I want to bypass the keyed ignition all together. Anyone have any ideas?

why would you want to do that? Would make it incredibly easy for someone to steal your truck

i was gonna do somethin along those lines with my truck, but decided against it....i was gonna hide a switch somewhere that would provide power to the truck and then you would have to push the button to start the truck...had a pretty damn good idea of where to hide the switch lol...oh well, save myself alot of headache

I ended up installing a switch and a push button on the panel underneath the ash tray. To start the truck you turn the key to on and flip the switch and then hit the push button. The key will not start it anymore, and the switch disconnects the power to the starter so that the button will not accidentally get pushed. I will post some pictures soon.

Why even have the key then? you should by pass it all together.

Ya I had that all set up but the ignition switch has like 12 wires going into it and I only planned for the 3 related to starting the engine so basically the stereo was even when the truck wasn't. I am not sure exactly what all of the wires lead to. On the left row the third one up is red. It is the power for the ignition and the two above that are for what would be the first two clicks with a key. The yellow wire is for the starter. I spend a few hours messing with it. If I could find a diagram of where every wire leads that would help. If anyone has successfully bypassed the key let me know how you did it.

i have exactly what you want in my truck. designed and built it myself over the last couple years. its pretty much an aftermarket version of what the nissans have. walk up to it and it unlocks, jump in and hit the cig lighter to start it. hit the lighter again to stop it. security is tight too. i put an alarm/keyless/remote start combo in it to take care of that. you open the door, hit the button or the break when armed and the alarm goes off, and the truck won't start. and it still has all the factory safety features too, wont start in gear, fuel shut off if alarm triggered. only problem is the steerin wheel doesnt lock, due to the fact i removed the key cylinder completely.
