Default original 40 series vs. 50 series (truck/SUV)

I just purchased dual Flowmaster exhaust that is DOR with 2 1/2in pipes with 3in outlets. It came with a 50 series truck/suv muffler, but I was thinking about getting more sound so I puchased the original 40 series 3in in with dual 2.5in outlets. It's currently in the garage and I am going to put it in this sat. I know the 40 is going to sound alot better and more authentic than the 50 series on a 4.7 ram. Iam prettysurethatthe 40is more restrictive than the 50 series and so probably won't get as much performance out of it vs. the 50. correct? The question I have is when I put the 40 on will i lose performance and mileage over the stock exhaust system. There should be some improvement, right? If you are running the 40 series single in with 2.5in dual out could you put in your .02cents on the increases and the sound. Thanks

Im running a magnaflow myself but i read on this site the 40 is restrictive, (by flowmasters admition),on a hemi. They actually make a muffler for the hemi:
http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/50_hd.html
Im not expert but id assume if its restricting the flow, there would be a drop in performance.
1 thing i do know is a 50 series is quieter than a 40. I guess it comes to: do you want real loud or just a nice, rumble and not so overbearing sound? Good luck figureing it out and enjoy your new pipes when ya get em.

I have the 40 Series.... I think its too loud. I also removed the resonators and replaced the cats.
I am planning on either an Aero Turbine or a 50 HD flomaster.... If anyone has a similer situation let me know. Also, who has a 50 Hd on their hemi?? let me know.

flowmaster 40 were replaced by super 44. they made another design to make less restrictive for hemi. i am ordering super 44.
u dont lose that much of performance and mileage.
it will be single in/dual out.

I have the 50 series for the HEMI....It was too quiet at first when it was going out a tailpipe. You could hear it while driving but, a low 500rpm Idle, you couldnt hear it. SO i would up dumping it at the muffler and it sounds soo much better.

You know honestly, I think much of the hype these days with MPGs and horsepower gains with exhaust systems are a tad exaggerated. To me, if your getting an exhaust system, do it for the noise and the looks. All the other things like horsepower and mpg gains should be considered bonuses in my view. If you get the 40 series, do it because you want it louder ya know? Your just not going to see drastic changes in mpgs. I run the SUPER 44, and guess what, my mileage actually went down. Probably because the sound is just so addicting lol. But I did the headers, and the exhaust system for the power, looks and sound of the truck, any other goods I can get from it are marked as extra, not expected[8D].

The 40 series is going to sound really sweet though. I can't wait to put it on. If anyone is looking for a 50 series can contact me at slus300@sbcglobal.net. I am going to sell it because it will be brand new and never used. Eventually I am looking into a true dual exhuast from the headers all the way back to the muffler, then I will probably go to a Dual in/out 50HD becuase it will flow better and help with the power increases.
