Default What is better oil?

I was wondering what you think is better to put in our trucks. I have never used synthetic and was wondering if there was a difference, are there any benefits to synthetic? Is one better for the hemi? Only thing that I know about it is that a relative of mine puts it in his Cadillac STS and they charge him at least $90 for synthetic oil and an oil filter at jiffy lube. I have always used Castrol oil and Castrol high miles (for 75,000 mi and over). Thanks,
justin

Full Synthetic not blended.

I use AMSOIL 0W-30 Synthetic Signature Series oil w/their Absolute Efficiency Filter in mine.Oil isguaranteedfor up to 35,000 miles/1 yearor 17,500/6 month in severe service. Filter is guaranteed up to 25,000/1 year or 15,000/6 months severe service.

You get better fuel economy & a cleaner engine.

Speed Safely,
AL

I don't know if it will really make that much difference in a properly maintained engine, but the tests show synthetic holds up better, and it's not that much more for a little extra margin of safety. Especially if you can't break free long enough to get the oil changed on time, and it runs a few extra miles before the oil change.

If you are just comparing Dino to Syn, you will find syn will get over 90% of the votes.

That is like asking, "What is better, orange juice from concentrate or freshly squeezed orange juice?"

Obviously synthetic oil is higher quality, but that doesn't mean you need to use it. It costs more than twice as much, but it generally resists acid formation and thermal breakdown better than mineral oil. It is also better for preventing sludge buildup. Some guys seem to be morally opposed to extending their oil change intervals to the point where synthetics make good economic sense. I use Amsoil DEO 5W-40 synthetic with a Donaldson filter, which runs about $90 per change. Using Blackstone Labs used oil analysis, I try to get the max life out of my oil.
