Cracked Dash
Hi guys, newbie here, just got my truck last Friday. A few months ago the local CBS station heredid a story on cracked dashes. They found quite a few around town. I thought is was pretty much 2nd gen stuff, butI could be wrong. A few people paid to get them replaced and then they got the factory involved and Dodge started replacing them at no charge on a "case by case" basis.
Sorry, don't haveany moredetails. The station was WKMG in Orlando, but I'll bet that some of the local dealers may know something about it as well.
Hope that helps....

On the 3rd gen trucks does the entire dash have to come out in order to replace the top that is cracked.
It kind of looks like two seperate pieces that are put together, unlike on the 2nd gen trucks.

i have a 2002 and the dash was cracked (looked like a spider web) so i got one from a salvage for $100 and put it in myself. but that was a mistake. i finally got in but it took 5-6 hrs. and a lot of "nice' words. had my "new" one in for 3 months and ikeep itcoatedwith black magic and aint cracked yet. had a 2000 that was cracked but it didnt put one in it.

Well thanks for the responses guys. I do live in Miami, FL so i'm sure the heat has a lot to do with it. I did call Dodge directly and they ran interference for the dealership. The $97.50 quote from the dealer was in writing but that was only toreplace half of the dash once they realized they need to replace the whole thing of course the price went up to the $500.Dodge is covering the parts even though the truck is out of warranty so I guess I can't get too upset about the price. If any of you have replaceyour dash you understand it is almost worth paying the money to have the dealer do it. With respect to the dashcovers I just don't like the way they look. The tinted windshieldsolved my problems with my 98 and the whole 5% thing was a screw up by my tint guy. I told him to put 28% on the windshield and 5% on the rest of the truck but due to a communication barrier all he understood was5% on the whole truck. It took some getting used to and thefading over time has helped the visibility. I will tellyou this nobody asks to borrow the truck at night!!! All in all Dodge need to look into a different type of plastic for their dash too many people with the same problem. Also the parts are on a national back order.
