Default RE: Changing The Fluids

Hi folks,

Been on the Charger forum for a couple of years now and I ordered a 1500 Regular Cab Long Bed last Friday to replace a '68 Chevy C10 that I bought 18 years ago for $500. Hope to get the same bang for the buck with my new Dodge .

Daytona1680, I think you have the oil requirements backwards. Heat thins out the oil so you need a heavier oil in hot weather or extreme use to maintain protection. A thinner oil is needed in cold environments to flow to the vital parts until the engine comes up to temp. The factoryrecommendation of 5w20 is a good for year round protection for most areas. Extremes like Alaska and the Southwestern deserts have their own recommendations. Another consideration is using the wrong weight oil can adversely affect MDS operation in the newer Hemis.

Looking forward to talking with you folks.

here is a little tidbit for those of you with MDS:
Oil grades and use. If you have the MDS system, be sure to use 5W20 oil - note that many dealers will use bulk 10W30 or even 10W40, partly out of ignorance and partly because it’s cheaper. You need to use the right oil if you want to keep your engine. Of course if the owner’s manual says something else, follow its advice - but don’t be convinced by a mechanic or oil-change place. Insist on the right grade and if they don’t use it...get a refund and go somewhere else. A technical service bulletin (TSB) - 09-015-04 and 09-013-04 - says: “Vehicles with the Multiple Displacement System must use SAE 5W-20 oil. Failure to do so may result in improper operation of the MDS.†Watch the mechanic pour it in! (This is the real reason BMW provides free oil changes.)

Ok, so this weekend im going to be cahnging out my transmission fluid and filters. Also my engine oil and oil filter. and while im at it ill probably do my differential.

so to start....i have an 02' with 90,000 miles on it. what weight oil would you use?

2nd.....what fluid do i need for my transmission....i couldnt find any Royal Purple for automatic trans...just manual, so id probally get penzoil unless someone tells me different.

3rd my differential....what weight was it exactly? 75W-90 or was it 75W-140............i have a 2wd so only the rear.

engine oil and differential will be royal purple and the oil filter will be a mobil 1. not sure what to do with the tranny like what filters and what fluid to use.

thanks
I just noticed you have an 02, so I guess it dosnt matter what those of us with a hemi are using. lol..the oil fill cap should say on it what to use
