Any thoughts on this "chip"?
New guy here, just bought my first Ram ('03 1500 QC HEMI) this week, and I've been thinking about some upgrades. Was digging around on ebay and found this item: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Perfo...em380011598989
Anybody have any experience with it?

I agree with all the above comments. I bought my SC for 235 off of ebay, and I personally think it is the best programmer for us, unless you are going to mod it way out there. But if you are going to do the typical, exhaust, CAI, programmer then this is the one for you. Just me 2 cents worth
Hi Greg,
Welcome to the Dodge Forum!!
All those cheap "chips" are nothing more than 5 cent radio shack resistors that you plug into your harness to fool the engine into thinking the air is cooler. They will cause your Check Engine light to come on and they do Nothing!!
Buy the real thing and save your money in the long run.

Thanks to all for confirming my gut feeling! Let me ask this, and I'm sure it's been covered a million times, but as far as CAI, exhaust, and programmer- what should I expect to pay and get in return? I don't know alot about these motors, but I do know that modding needs to be done as a "system", rather than 1 piece at a time, to get the return to be greater than the sum of the parts.
I don't really need a great deal of hp increase, I would prefer to get an intake/exhaust system with a better sound (not obnoxious, though) and a chip that might boost fuel economy. If anyone has suggestions and prices, let me know. As well as what can be done by a reasonably talented do-it-yourselfer (my vehicles VERY rarely get work done in the shop).
Thanks!
Greg
