RAM 1500 Custom turbo setup!
me and my friend are attempting to turbocharge a 2002 dodge ram 1500 4.7l gas engine. something pretty crazy! i was thinking gt3076r turbo with custom uppipe, downpipe, and intercooler setup. i want it to be under the hood, something of a rotated setup. any suggestions on any part of the build? tune? materials? thanks!
Bolting up the parts isn't the hard part. The real kicker is that it's damn near impossible to tune the computer in these trucks. Look into the tuning methods the other forced induction kits are using but I don't know if they'll do everything you're going to need.
Make sure there is a good tune available for your engine before you even get started.
Not just a wot tune, but an all round good tune for street driving and wot driving that won't set codes etc.
Then you need to have the right turbo size for the engine and the proper injectors, wastegate, etc.
Hope you make it.

thanks for the interest yall. it is a turbo off of my 2007 sti. garrett gt3076r ported and polished with .82a/r. i think the v8 will spool it very well. as for tuning i havent looked into that yet... tricktuners can do email tunes so i am not sure what i can do besides that. i think it will be a sick setup.
Ive seen some setups where turbo and cooler setups were rigged through the exhaust...not sure how much, how efficient etc but maybe worth looking into especially if your looking for a "stock" appearence.
As said above make sure that you have someone that can tune it before you buy anything.

Dodge went out of their way to lock people out of the PCM, moreso than any other manufacturer. Even if you did a full standalone ECU, you'd still need something to control the transmission -- easily done for GM products but I have no idea about Dodge.
Nearly twice the displacement will spool the turbo instantly, that's for sure. I'd be interested in seeing how you plan to do the crossover pipe and where the turbo will go.
FWIW, I have a Legacy GT and I'm ordering a FP Green, FMIC, and all the goodies. By next weekend I should have a nice stack of boxes full of parts ready to go on the car. 400 whp will be enough for me [8D]
