Default I can't pull my codes?!?

Title says it all. I have searched on this BB and others.

I tried the method in this thread... https://dodgeforum.com/m_691136/tm.htm

And in this one..... http://www.allpar.com/fix/computer-codes.html

And another..... https://dodgeforum.com/m_1257738/tm.htm

But I get nothing, I do have a check engine light (steady , all the time) and I know the problem is my EGR valve (dealer pulled code and told me)

Iam just trying to figure out why I can't get the code myself?

Do I need to try a different method?

Ya I know, AAMOF ,my dealer will do it for me for free, that is how I know it is an EGR. I am just trying to figure out why I can't do it here at home, like the above threads say.

Have you tried pulling the negative battery cable to reset it and see if it still remains or will not let you pull it yourself?

did you read the note in the DIY it says Note, early 3rd Gen Rams do not support this feature.
Ya I saw that, I was hoping it did not apply to the whole procedure, also my truck being an 04 I didn't consider it to be that "early" a gen 3, as Gen 3 starts in 02.

oh well I guess it is.

So does that mean that for 3 years or so there was no way for the customer to pull their codes? I can see why that didn't last.

Well, there you go. I thought I had seen some other threads were people had pulled them on trucks older than mine.

I wonder if anyone with an 04 PU (hemi) has been able to pull their codes?

I still wonder if I am doing something wrong?

Is it On / off? or On / ACC?, I have seen it both listed both ways?

I pull them fine on the 05 hemi I have now..put the key in then go on-off-on-off-on and the gauges will light up, then where the odometer is it will flash the codes then say done, if there are no codes it will just say done

The key trick does not work on the 04's. Don't know why, but I know a handful of 04's that it will not work on including mine.
