Default body lifts

I have been thinking about getting a body lift. What is the downside to a body lift? Do you lose any hauling capacity? Are they difficult to install yourself?

a body lift wont give you the same quality ride that the suspension lift will give you... all it is doing is making the bushings in your body mounts longer allowing your cab to be higher off the frame... not neccessarily the most effective way to lift your truck...

Without a doubt a stiffer ride than a suspension lift, and if you use the relocation brackets to raise the rear bumper, you can no longer use the bumper to tow. A receiver hitch will still work fine...

I just did a body lift and have found absolutely no difference in my ride quality. Truck feels the exact same as before until you climb in and out of it. My wife doesn't even feel the difference and if anyone would notice a rougher ride, it would be her. As for the bumpers no longer being used to tow, I have a receiver hitch so I never used my bumpers anyways. I've always been told that if you did a suspension lift, it would most likely change the ride quality because ur changing springs and shocks but don't know since I've never had one. Rode in a friend's truck with a suspension lift once and it was rough as hell but it was a different make truck. I really like my body lift and you can't beat it for the price. 3" performance accessories lift for $318 shipped. I installed it myself over a weekend with hand tools (which I would STRONGLY suggest using an air compressor or power tools, I used hand tools and must have been crazy). It came with everything I needed except the jack, a second person to help and an air compressor.

Scotty: Take it off road, and I don't mean across the playground. I'm not saying body lifts are no good, but I've installed three on my own trucks and now have installed my first suspension lift. In fact, I installed a PA 3" on my '98 Dodge and had no problems with it at all, however, I ALWAYS thought being bounced around off road was just a part of having a lifted truck until this suspension lift. Granted, to clear bigger tires and for looks, you can't beat the price of a body lift, but for off-road ride quality, it doesn't compare to a suspension lift. (Nor at a quarter to a third of the price, should one expect it to).

IMO,a body lift is good enough for at least 80% of those looking to lift their trucks, but I have farm land (granted I can't work it or hardly ever get up to it lately) and I play (hunt, fish, ATV) hard. Also, I'm getting older and have a few minor league/semi proball and college football aches and pains catching up with me, so I'm in the minority who actually needs to spend more on a suspension lift...

When I think of ride quality, I think of driving on the street, not off road. If I go off road I guess i expect to get thrown around but I understand what you're talking about with a better ride. I guess look at why you are lifting ur truck Roadney, if it's to clear bigger tires and an overall look to your truck for a low price, then go with the body lift. You don't lose anything on street driving (except maybe mpg but I doubt it) and it does make the trucks look better IMO. If you are looking to do some serious offroading then maybe a suspension is the way to go. Just don't look at it as a "you get what you pay for" you don't need to spend $1,000+ on a suspension lift if you just want the look or bigger tires. you do need to spend the money if you want to do a "Jeep Jamboree" type of offroad experience.

Ya I am basically just going for looks not off road ride quality. It is only a 2wd so it is just keeping me satisfied for now until I can afford a new 4x4 truck with a big v8. I just order 2.5" coil spring spacers to level it, and I want to possibly put the body lift on this summer, but I won't do that until I can get some bigger tires cause I don't want to drive around with 6" of lift with stock 17's.

I'd say a level kit & body lift are the way to go, I think it would be spending money foolishly to put a suspension lift on a 4x2...
