Default My first Dodge

This is my first Dodge Ram. I was a Blue Oval man for over 40 years, but the 6.0L diesel left me with enough ill feelings, I will not be going back. What can I expect from this Truck. I am a performance freak, this is why I decided to go with the Hemi engine. I am considering air intake, exhaust and possibly a programmer. What can I expect in fuel mileage gains, HP gains, etc with these add ons.
Of course I am waiting to do all of this until I put some miles on the truck just to break her in.

This is also my first Dodge after years of being a Chebby guy. My dad's old Ram seemed to "float" like a boat esp. in the snow/mudbutI find my newRam to be a good driver. I put on the LSD whichI think is WAY important and the Hemi is just one exciting machine in itself. I didn't and don't expect much mpg's but it get's way better than my 72 Chevy 4X4 that is for sure.... You will see some HP gains but to me they are nominal as it has more than you really need anyway, I mean I am somewhat of a leadfoot but I'm also 45....

Best of luck with your new RAM!

You are right about the power, there is more than enough. I am 53 and speed does not mean that much to me anymore. I just like being able to make something good, better. You have a wicked looking ride.

Thanks!

This last weekend I went to the Washington Coast. On the way home up the mountain hills I went right by an Identical MC, color and all EXCEPT his was a diesel. He tried to keep up with me and couldn't.... not to mention when I floored it.... and I had my Super chip program in Economy Mode and ran 87 octane. I found I got just about the same mpg's and I didn't notoce any less power from when I was in Performance Mode on the way there... now I was not towing...

Damn, you are a couple of old SOB's!!!
How refreshing, at 41, I'm always the old man in most discussions around here.
Exhaust, CAI & Programmer is where most start, in that order. The three as a group net better gains than the sum of each individually, plus a good programmer really firms up the tranny shifts nice!
There is a lot of room to take that engine. You can easily make 450 HP (or about 340-350 RWHP) with a naturally aspirated Hemi without doing any head work. You start talking blowers and/or heads and it can go up dramatically from there...

How is the shifting with your programmer? I am familiar with them from my diesel days. Does if firm up the shifting? What are the tunes that come with it, and what do they do?
Thanks

I personally don't really notice any difference with my shifting with the Superchips 8510 and my '08

I'm not sure how many features Superchips offers the '08 owners yet. I've heard you are getting only about 40% of the benefits we are seeing. It took well into '07 before they figured out how to "talk to" the '07 PCM's and offer much more than timer advancement and wheel size adjustment. I know on my '04 and my neighbors '06, the tranny shift firmness is night and day from stock...
