RE: Stupidest Question Ever...
well after reading this post..(i didnt know exactly what o/d was used for) I gave it a try on the highway today...I live in kansas and it is kinda hilly and the wind was blowing like crazy...so when in over drive the truck was always down shifting going up hills and such in cruise control...and with o/d off i didn't down shift once..it was nice. Even though it was running at 2800-2900 rpm the whole time, i think it actually saved me gas not having todown shift a ton of timeson my 1 1/2 hour trip. So what im trying to say is thanks for the enlightenment!

Hmmm, Turns out wasnt TOO much of a stupid question. And at least different from the same old "How do I get more power" etc etc posts.

as far as taking off od while in town that'll just kill your mpg. Now I have a 4.7 so I can't even imagine how slow a 3.7 is as mine is pretty slow, but switching od off in town to get a lil more get up and slow isn't a good idea. This won't kill your tranny by leaving od on, why do you think it resets upon shut down every time instead of keeping it on whatever you had on last. What will kill your tranny is towing with od on.
Ryan good lord I just read your post, you're burning through a ton of gas, if you think down shifting into 2800 rpms hurts your fuel econ then why dont you think running at 2600 rpms constantly would kill your mpg?

ramitone...i dont think you understand..i was driving for an hour and a half uphills with a 40mph headwind...when it would downshift it would go over 3000 EASY...i guess its cause i have the 3.7...it has to work alittle harder...plus a few days earlier i made the trip with od on (similar wind conditions, maybe worse) and i burnt a half a tank traveling close to 90 miles...thats what 7mpg???!!.[:@]..(on a calm day it usually takes me 1/4 tank) and on the way back, it didnt burn nearly as much with od off.

RE: Stupidest Question Ever...
um well i say kinda hilly...compared to say...colorado..but for kansas, its as hilly as it gets..and as far as the gears, im not sure...i guess what ever stock is. I do know that it will downshift quite a bit on a calm day on the same trip just to keep up to 75mph..it will slow usually to around 68-70 before it says "**** time to downshift"
