HELP! Stranded in Mexico...Dodge Ram 1500 2003 Stalling after engine warms up...
My friend has a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 w/75,000 miles on it. He is a missionary in Mexico and is moving back to the U.S. While riding with him the other day, the following happened:
1) We drove for about 50 miles on an open road (some dirt) w/no problems
2) About 5-10 minutes after arriving in the city with stop/go traffic, the truck began to stall intermittently.
3) We made it through an intersection under very little power and pulled off the road.
4) The car would start perfectly fine and then sputter and lose power and shut off. The gas gauge would show 1/2 tank, which is what we had and then would fall back to Empty.
5) A Mexican mechanic replaced the fuel pump (as the gas down here is corrosive). Still the problem persists. It appears to worsen as the engine warms up.
The Mexican mechanics have said that they have looked at the following and can't figure it out.
a) They've had it on a computer and it didn't shoot any codes, even upon stalling.
b) They've looked at the EGR valve, throttle body, fuel filter, catalytic converter, took off the whole muffler system and ran with it that way, spark plugs, distributor cap, etc...
Can anyone please help us figure out what is going on so we can get back to the U.S.? Thank you in advance for any help.

is there gas in the truck?
Check fuel injectors?
if the gas is corrosive the fuel lines should be getting eaten away, were they checked?. Kinda like what ethanol gas does to vehicles that dont have stainless steel fuel lines.
If the truck will start have somebody hold open the schrader valve on the fuel rail, it should shoot gas out; or put a fuel pressure gauge on the test port(where the schrader valve is)on the fuel rail and see if the pressure is right..
It kinda sounds like the cats could be clogged, but that wouldnt explain the sudden drop on the fuel gauge unless the gauge is malfunctioning or there is no gas in the tank.
Is it possible to get it towed back to the U.S? ha ha
