Default Does adding canopy = shi$$y MPG?

Thinking about ditching the tool box and buying a leer canopy (I like the look). Just thinking if the weight difference will ruin my fuel economy. Also curious what a leer canopy for a SB would weigh?

Just a little something for you all to think about....

I'm not sure what your 'canopy' choice would do but reducing the weight certainly should help some. I've installed a Truxedo Lo Pro Tonneau cover and it does help slightly (.9 to 1.1 mpg) on sustained 70 mph trips over 100 miles.

its not the weight that will hurt, its if its one of those high toppers that will then increase drag..

You are absolutely correct especially in this application - the laws of physics and aerodynamics tell the truth!

Yeah, the high tops will hurt you with the drag that they will produce, but if you get flush top ones then it will help. As far as weight, I have the Leer and I think mine weighs some where in the market of 85 lbs. I can take it off and put it on by myself as I need. Weight is not a problem with the toppers.

Currently my "tool"box is not stuffed full of tools. I have a garage and that's where i like to keep my tools. the box is used for tow straps fuel can and riding gear. Id say I keep about 20-30 lbs in the box. The topper I'm looking at is a leer and its height is flush with the top of the cab. What I'm concerned with is the COD and the tail wind, aerodynamics don't always work the way people think that's why you see people driving with the tailgate down which serves no purpose(its been proven)

Thanks guys
