I can assure you that your burn outs had NOTHING to do with the failure. I can also asure you that paying 100 bucks to have the clips replaced is a waste of 100 bucks. You would be better off putting that hundred bucks into a Auburn POSI or a Detroit True Track.
Paying 100 bucks to replace a clip that will fail again is nickel and diming at its finest! I would not just replace one... I would have them all replaced if you decided to do it. I think they have a new part number for those clips that are said to be stronger...
You can also remove the clips to prevent and further damage. You would be better off doing that then having it rebuilt.

RE: differential advice
$2000 is high for front & rear gears, LSD and install. $1000 for an LSD installed is robbery. I paid just over $1400 after tax for 4.56 gears (front & back), master install kit, Auburn LSD, installation and a 500 mile check w/fluid change in June of '06 on my '04 Hemi 4x4...
I've never had an issue with the Auburn, it's gotten me through a lot of slop I know where an open diff would have had me out of the cab using the winch. I went with it on the recommendation of the place I had do the work, they stated they had had problems with the couple of TrueTrac's they had installed. I now think it was a case where they just didn't have a lot of experience with the Detroit, because I've never heard issues anywhere else.
Although my Auburn is fantastic, if I was doing it now, I'd opt to spend the extra $100 or so and get the Detroit unit...

I agree with Hammer, The Auburn is a great POSI unit... the Detroit True track is better... I would not lose sleep owning either one. They are both great.
The best prices I have seen for the Carriers is:
Auburn 380.00 FREE SHIPPING
DETROIT TRUE TRACK 495.00 FREE SHIPPING
Adde gears to the order and you save even more...

CCM182. I just had the same problem with my 2002 Ram 1500 2WD. I had the delaer replace them and my axle seals were leaking so they replaced the seals as well under my 7yr/70K mile warranty and paid my $100.00 deductible. It was defintely the cheapest route event hough I know the clips can go again. I opted for paying the 100.00 vs 1000-1200 to change to an Auburn and 4.56 gears right now.

I know mine was willing to do that but I did not have the money at that time for the new gears/carrier. So they just put it back together using the stock stuff.

RE: differential advice
My father is having the same issue with his 2000. The clutch retaining clips broke and are falling out. Luckly we caught it before any daman to any gears. One question that has not been answered yet is if you take out the clips is it safe to run that way, would it just act like a open diff then?? Also has anyone done a rebuild on the clutchs?? The ones in the truck now lasted 98,000 alot of which was the 1st owner towing hoarses around. So if I could get away with just doing a rebuild on the clutches that would be awsome. I just got quoted from a local dealer. $937 for them to rebuild the clutch pack and $1575 for a new carrier. The clutch pack kits are around $120 so if this is a dIY job alot of money can be saved. Anyone know if this can be done with the carrier still in the housing or do you have take it out to do it correctly.
