Yesturday after I filled up a tank of gas the stupid check engine light came on. I called dodge they said to check the gas cap so I did. I drove it to work which is 10 miles away the lights still on even driving it back home. I wake up this morning to go surfing before school the light turned off but then turned back on half way to the beach. I got back home but when I went to leave for school the engine wouldn't start. The thing crankes over but won't fire up. But after schoold It fired up so I drove it straight to the mechanic were now it won't start. So its stuck there. What could this be becuase when it did run it ran perfect, no sputtering or anything. Im starting to think about trading it in since its got 82000 miles. What should I do becuase this will be most likely 500+ to fix and its out of waranty. I'm fustrated.
there going to call me when they hook it up to the computer, if its a fuel pump i swear im going strangle a hippo becuase I just filled it up so its a full 26 gallons of fuelthat they might drain it.
Do you run it down to "fumes" before you refuel? That killed the pump in my '95 Ram Wagon. I used to delay refueling 'til the last possible moment. The pump quit at 119K (just like yours -- right after a fill-up). Lesson learned -- I don't let 'em get below 1/4 tank anymore.
Tough break. The fuel pump in that van "only" cost me 'bout $320. 'Course, that was in '99 or so.

pfww guess it was only a camshaft idle sensor or a timing sensor, something that tells the computer the engines trying to start. $30 part but $100 in labor. I am so glad thats all that it was. So if your truck doesnt start but the things still cranking that might be it. It crazy how a $30 part can put you outta commission plus a huge tow bill if your in the middle of the desert. Im glad i got it to the mechanic then it died.
