INFO ON PROGRAM TO SWITCH HEMI ENG FROM V-8 TO V-6 OR 4
My supervisor has been looking for this program that will turn off cylinders during travel to save fuel. My wife's Honda Pilot does this hen cruising at a steady speed it will go down to 4 cyl from 6. Is there anyone out there with knowledge of this progam? He drives a 2003 Dodge 2500 with the Hemi engine I think it's the 6.1L version. Thanks!

only in the 2006+ HEMIs theres the MDS. it shuts off 4 cylinders and runs on 4 when cruising. there may be a computer you can buy to do so. but i havent heard of anything. i think hes outta luck on that. his best bet would be to get a 2006 or newer ram with a HEMI.

The Hemi truck engine is the 5.7L, not 6.1L. The MDS does all sortsa cool stuff, closing valves, killing the fuel supply and probably the spark plugs as well. Yep, his best bet is trade it for a newer model. The MDS won't save enough to pay for the new truck, though, and it isn't available on the 2500s or 3500s -- only the 1500.

lol MDS is bullsheet... think about it, even if you get a head wind while on cruise control its gonna shut off. youre still getting 14.7:1, thats why even when youre coasting downhill you actually are not getting near (mpg) what a older non computer controlled veh or diesel would get.
it could have a 6.1 hemi, chrysler does make em, just not in the rams....

You wifes honda gets a whole bank deactivated...so itgoes from 6 to 3 cylinders. The newer accord can go down to 4 and then 3....different setup though.

MDS does work...I cruise all the time at 70-75 with it on. Cruise control isn't all that great to use if you want to keep it in MDS...slowly using the throttle is the best way. A strong head wind might or might not shut it off...if anything you'llhave to slow from say 75 to 70 but it would have to be really windy. You're just pissed because a hemi gets the same mpg as your 4.7....with a lot more power. I might be too unless I had a 08 4.7..

MDS has nothing to do with air pressure at sea level... It just shuts off four cylinders under the proper conditions. My 300C gets almost 21 mpg at 80 mph+. That's with two people and a week's worth of luggage. How many 4,600# + sedans can claim that?
