transmission fluid check
I just changedmy transmissionfluid in my 03 dodge ram 1500. The dipstick has the level for when it hot and when its cold. when the vehicle is cold its in the hot range and when it hot its in the cold range. I just brought the truck and I'm freakin clueless on wut to do. I've never had this problem before.

RE: transmission fluid check
A good check involves getting the tranny well warmed up.
I believe 15 miles is a good figure of varying speeds.
Then, on level ground and with the truck in park and ideling, dip the tranny. The fluid should be between the two small holes on the stick which reads "hot".
If not and it's low, add untill you get the correct measurement.
Add fluid through the dip stick hole a little at a time and make sure, you wait at least 5 minutes for it to fully go down the tube and into the pan.
Keep the truck ideling and recheck.
DO NOT overfill.
This can cause foaming which leads to heat build up which adds tarnish and deposits on the clutches/bands and will eventually fry your tranny.
Your handbook gives a walk through of this proceedure if you have one.
You can also read the maintenance manual on line.
PM me so I can give you a link as this site will block the link.
Hope this helps?

yea I changed the fluid and the two filters. And of course the 03 model hemi doesnt come with a pan gasket so i was pissed andI had to make my own gasket with that RVT ****. I just dont understand this trans level check on this dodge, I've never had a problem doing this before.

Strange, the filter kit I bought had a pan gasket and there was one on it when I took the pan down. I just used a bit of RTV to steady the new gasket while I put 'er back together.
