MPG at 10.6 soud right for an 04 hemi?
havent been on here in a while, moved up from the 2nd gen forum so please forgive me here. I searched and read some posts about fuel mileage, but mine seems worse than what most all of you have posted. so heres what I have:
2004 5.7Hemi QC
4x4
3.92 gears
315/70/17 BFG all terrains
auto with NO o/d
all stock (even the engine, no intake or anything) except for what i believe is a 3 or 4" fab-tech lift. I love the truck, but the mileage I would think could be better. the best I have seen out of it on the highway is 11.2, then 10.8 on the same return trip. I drive it very conservatively, about 65-70 on the freeway and baby it around town. From what I have read, most of you seem to be getting at least 12-14. I understand its lifted and has bigger tires, but I would think it could do better than this.
I asked the local dodge dealer, and he says they can "flash" update the computer, but it could make it worse as well as better, and it was not reversable once it was done. Hope I am covering everything here, any input or advice would be great!

yeah with those tires and a lil lift, thats very likely
how many miles on the truck??
clean your throttle body, replace plugs, use the champ coppers, part number is listed underneath the hood...
and here you thought all this tech in a 3rd gen would help ya lol

dont let em tell ya it's not reversible, cause it is...i know these sort of things......yeah 10.6 might be a little low but not totally unexpected....try givin it a tune up, air filter, that sort of thing and it might go up a little bit then
10.6 is a bit thin. The lift is hurting you just from more wind resistance, but you may need a tune-up. Not sure, but the rolling resistance of the BFGs may not be very good, plus the unsprung weight of the tires, wheels and lift aren't helping either. No O/D? Is that possible?
you know when od is on it doesnt say od on right? just making sure youre not looking for a light...
yeah like i said those tires are giving you grief, its good its only a 17" wheel, but the tread alone will hurt you, if you had a street tire the same size it would get better mpg..

Mine's setup similar to yours. When I got the truck the motor was bone stock, but had the lift and the tires. I was getting 10 mpg on a good day.
I added the exhaust, superchips (i keep it on the 87 octane tune) and the gears, and im up to 12mpg. The gears really helped. I didnt realize it until after they were installed, but my engine was really having a time getting the 37's moving. After the gears I could tell how much less the engine had to work to move the truck. I'm hoping with a good CAI ill pick up another mpg or so.
I pretty sure dodge didnt make a non OD transmission in 04. It doesnt show it on the shifter, because you cant select it orturn it off. If yours really isnt shifting in to OD, its messed up.

My truck description is in the signature and according to the over head read out i get what everyone around here says 14 city and 19-21 highway but i just ran a full tank to empty and i got 11 mpg. Those are the real numbers...for my truck
about 51,000 miles on it right now...you could be right, it might have o/d. i drove my friends 06 and it had a overdrive button and a tow/haul option. mine just has the tow/haul option on the shifter. it runs great, and it is the strongest engine i've ever had in a truck, so im not really complaining, since I tow my boat with it in the summer. But, if I could save some money, that would be great. anyone know about this "flash" computer update the dealer claims they can do? will it help at all?
Sounds lowto me i can get 12.5/13 if i dont run the ship out of it and keep it under 70mph. i know that changing to the short plug wires did give me some extra mpg and the superchips really helped, but know i have to run 91 or higher
