05 Ram Crapped Out
Ive got an 05 Ram 1500 Hemi Quadcab that I must admit Ive kinda babied over the years, it only has 13,000 miles, gets driven about once a week and is kept in the garage. Anyway, yesterday I go to back it out and when the starter turns over I know immediately something is wrong, it doesnt catch and the starter cranks for about 8-10 seconds then the engine starts (barely). It feels likeon an old car when theyjump the timing belt but Im pretty sure thats not it, maybe its only running on a few cylinders and the check engine light was on. I backed it out and tried to drive around the block to see if it would straighten itself out but the engine seems stuck on about 1500 rpm and the gas pedal seemed to have no effect. Anyway, I didnt want to do serious damage so after a minute or so I parked it and called the Dodge Roadside Assist. They had a flatbed truck at my house within 30 minutes and my truck was on its way to the shop.(Excellent service by the way.) Any ideas? Im thinking maybe dirty injectors but when I parked it maybe a week earlier it ran fine. I do drive it every week so its not like the fuel went bad. Anyway, Im wondering if this has happened to anybody else. First problem Ive had with this truck.
you need 2 stick a foot off in that gas pedal a lil more often 2 clean it out lol i havnt never had that proplem but if it was running fine the week b4 sound like mabey it could be a sensor wire mabey a rat has chewed a wire a wire or somthing since it stays in a garage, but a dont think it could be anything major.
Im pretty sure its something electronic with the fuel mgt system and not plugged injectors cause I do drive the truck and it sure felt like more than just one cylinder was messed up. Actaully I was planning on a several thousand mile trip to Montana/Wyoming this coming weekendso thats why Im pissed this happened now. No rats in my garage (though I know that can happen). Guess Ill wait to hear from the dealership tommorrow. Dammit.
It sounds like a timing sensor that tells the computer the engines running. if it messes up you can get the starter working fine and turning the crank but no fire. The computer just doesn't give the enigine any spark. Mine only turned over after it sat for awhile. Now its perfect and the part is only $30 plus labor.

Just got back from thedealership with my truck. The problem was a "map/tmap sensor" (thats what is written on the printout), guess it was a quick fix and its running fine now. Have to give credit to Dodge, when it died on Saturday I called the Roadside Assist and they were at my house with a flatbed truck in 30 minutes. When my truck was finished this afternoon the dealer sent a car out to pick me up at the house and of course no charge on anything. I cant really complain since this is the first real problem Ive had with my truck in three years (other than the lumbar support **** breaking). This bodes well for me and Dodge and if things continue to go good maybe late next year Ill get me one of those Challenger R/T's, hemi, plum crazy with a 6 speed (gotta sell my 67 GTO first though). If anybody has info on the map sensor Id love to know what the hell it is. Thanks
