Default Tow Hooks

I was looking into geting some Tow Hooks and was wondering if anyone here has installed them. I read somewhere that you have to take the front bumper off. Is this true? Dodgleparts.com just says that they bolt to the frame. I think this should have been a standard thing on the 1500's along with the wheel wells. My blazer has them and so did my friend's tahoe. Can anyone help?

Thanks
justin

justin,

Yes the bumper has to come off but it is not a big deal. it is a two person job if you don't want to deal with the bulkiness of the bumper. The install itself is easy; the hooks are two open ended hooks on the end of a thick plate. Take off the bumper, use the supplied hardware, bolt through the frame and reinstall the bumper. The fascia is taken and remains off.

Hope this summary helps. In my signature photo it is above my hidden hitch for my Warn Winch.

def can't just unscrew 2 bolts, my bull bar said I would have to remove the hooks, but then I figured out how to to mount it with them still on. But it looked like it would be a lil bit of work to take them off.

i would like tow hooks on my 02 but, I dont like the factory hooks on a 3rd gen, they look dinky.

If I could put some off a late 90s chevy that are like 1inch thick hooks, that would be alright

I got my truck pretty stuck in mud and then slammed into a mound. Got winched out with no problem.

I lost mine when I put on the trans4mer grill guard. So I improvised. Two grade 8 U-bolts through the bottom of the winch mount and a couple of big beefy 6 ton rated shackles later and presto!!!

yeah they said in the imstructions that I would have the lose the hooks, but I had a hunch I could get around it. Was planning on replacing some of the bolts with longer ones but wound up with pleanty of thread left. Its mounted firm, my 6'4" 300# as can stand on the bar with no issues.
