Default No turning back, 4:56 gears are orderd!

I just wanted to say thanks for all the advise from everyone! I ordered 4:56 gears and a Detroit tru trac! They should be in, in about a week and installed in about two weeks! I will let you know what I think when I get the chance to break them in and see what they can really do! By then the snow should be melted enough and I can give them a real 4x4 test!

Thanks HammerZ71 for all your advise! I talked 4wheel parts down $400 on the install and gear package! They quoted me $1960 and after a couple days went by I called them back and talked them into $1560!

No problem, Bro.

You are gonna love that setup. I wanted the Detroit, but at the time I got mine done, the TruTrac's were on backorder for the Dodge rear's. I didn't have the patience, so I went with the Auburn. Not that the Auburn hasn't worked great, but if I had to do it again, I'd have waited the 4-6 weeks on the TruTrac.
I found 4 Wheel Parts will work with you. I was quoted just over $1700 when I called them. I ended up printing the pages off websites of the best prices I found on the different components and they matched them, bringing it down to just over $1400 after tax.
Just break 'em in right, and make sure you get it back to them in 500 miles for a check & fluid change. They included that service for me as well, so make sure they won't charge you extra for it.

Well the work is done! I have to go back and they are going to replace the CV boot that they pinched and put a little hole in! And I have to go back for the 500 mile check up!

I noticed very little on the RPM's which is what I was most concerned with! I went from 1700 at 70 to 2000 at 70 which is nothing really! I haven't punched it yet due to the good advice of Hammerz71, But once I get check up and everything looks good I am going to drive it like I stole it! I did notice however it shifts a lot easier and it has a quicker responce time off the line (without goosing it)

No pics to post since this is the first MOD I had done somewhere other them my own garage!

I figure that the 300 rpm difference is about right with your 37" tires. I am about 400 rpm different at 70 mph with my 35's. Just wait till you can "get on it".

I don't know who started this whole "your rpm's will go way up and you'll lose all your top end and your mpg's will go way down" thing, but it's all over EVERY damn forum, and it's a load of crap...

I was thinkin' Richmond 4.56 gears and an Auburn l/s. What's the price difference on the Tru Trac? I'm about $1000 short, anyway...but hey that's what credit cards are for, right?

The Detroits run about $125 higher. The Auburn is supposedly a little better on pavement, not chattering around turns as much, etc. The Detroit has no clutches to wear out over time and they both lock up the rear quite well.
