I have just started hearing the same "bottle" noise occationally when I first start up...I thought some kind of bird was under my hood! I'll add this to the list of annoyances I'm discovering on my '08.

Im having this same issue in my 05. Just started a couple days ago. If I accelerate fairly hard from a dead stop I get the "bottle blow" sound and a slight vibration. To me me it sounds towards the center back of the truck around the differential area.

I dropped my Truck off today at the dealer to have the sound and my wiper motor looked at. Turns out their ordering a new drive shaft for me. Not sure if its gonna fix that noise but, thats what there gonna try.

Dealer installed a new muffler on mine, it didn't fix the problem, picked up the truck this afternoon and the delaer said it was a software issue and they would have to wait on dodge to come up with a software fix. I've never heard of a software problem causing an exhuast vibration noise whenever the mds kicks in from 20- 40 mph under light exceleration.

I started hearing the same sound on my 08 a few days ago. It doesn't matter if I am accelerating hard or soft, you can hear it. I would describe it more like the infamous power steering whine that every Ford makes. If you have ever driven a Ford, you know that sound. At first I thought it might be a loose belt, but it does not change pitch as the rpm's increase like a loose belt does. Just a constant Ford power steering noise when you hit the gas. It is most noticeable accelerating from a stop but I notice it up to about 30 mph. After that, road, wind and engine noise drown it out. If I am stopped and have the steering wheel turned, like in a drive through, the truck makes the same noise. When I am stopped, it only makes the noise when the wheel is turned, not when it is straight. Is is possible for the power steering pump to whine loudly while driving in a straight line?

Sounds just like the rear diff issue...upon slowing to a stop or starting from a stop, if my wheel was turned, I would hear this howling/blowing across bottletop noise. Especially if I was going backwards...it was my rear differential needing some new fluid. I changed it out and made sure to add plenty Limited Slip additive, never happened again.

Default Glad to hear I'm not alone....I guess

Same wierd noise here....the "blowing across the bottle sound" is the best comparison, but combined with a rubbing and droning vibration sound...LOL.... I can't come up with a better description.

'05 Hemi Sport 4x4, 3.92 w/LSD, less than 9k miles.

Occurred since new, on and off, mainly when taking off from a dead stop, light to moderate throttle. Never heard it in reverse, only when moving forward and in a straight line. Can't recall hearing it while cornering (LSD?) or under heavy throttle.

The dealer I bought this from had an excellent service department, but unfortunately went out of business. The dealer here in town is worthless, I've told them as much, and I wouldn't trust them with an oil change, let alone anything else. If it's under warranty, their standard response is "oh, that's normal".....out of warranty.....get out the checkbook and bend over. I could go on and on about these crooks...seen it with my own eyes....but I won't ramble on.

All I know for sure is strange noises bug the hell out of me. I've checked all the usual mechanical suspects.... brakes, u-joints, bearings, fluid levels, etc....all fine. Maybe MDS related???

I hope someone figures it out before our trucks start imploding.

The '05 have MDS? I thought that came out for the '06? Would that be a standard on a '05 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi? JW. Would that explain why the RPM's drop down about 300RPM's (From 2000 down to about 17000) when I hit 50mph and let off the gas a little?
