Long time listener...first time caller. I have a 2004 w/mods and since putting on my 20's, I have been getting 9 MPG...sometimes 10 MPG. Yes, I am a lead foot. However, I was getting 12-14 before the new wheels. I've NEVER seen anything better than 15 MPG highway...even before the mods. So, the moral of the story is: "Quitchyer bitchen". Stay away from the drive thru. They kill you in the gut AND the gas tank.

Negative. I bought a Flashpaq, after you told me that Diablo was blowin' sh#t up! (that was you, right?) Man, it has been a while. I've been hammered with overtime, lately. Besides, I was seeing a lot of the same posts, from different peeps. Nobody knows how to search topics that have been exhausted over and over. Anyway, it's good to hear from you. I won't be a stranger. BTW, haven't done too much to the truck either, lately. I NEED to get some gears and contemplating the cam upgrade, too. Maybe, this overtime deal is gonna be worth it after all.

3.55's actually help your fuel econ when youre at speed on the highway, simple physics.
i have 3.92 and yes i will see 20+ on long trips where i have to fill back up, so i can do the math, and ive seen 22.xx on a trip from SA to corpus christi

Just stating that I and most people, do not get the 20+MPG some people allegedly get on here??
Also, my 3:55's might help my mpg on the freeway when I'm at speed, but two things badly go against the 3:55 and 20's combo.
Wind.......not the **** kind ha ha ha and hill's.
Plus, just getting to 70 mph with the 3:55's, is a labour for the Hemi. All the reciprocating weights and stuff.......you understand???
I can and do appreciate the Physics and the maths, but have a word with some of the 4:56 guys about saving fuel compared to when they were running with the 3:55's.
4:56 gearswork well, even at highway speeds of 60-70 mph, as the engine isn't labouring to get to that speed, as it does with the 3:55's and it can hold the speed against the wind and hills easier due to the mechanical advantage of the gearing.
I haven't got the 4:56's.........yet, but the maths I do and fellow members real world observations, do bear out better mpg gains etc with the 4:56's.
Just my 2p worth.

RE: Flue prices...
the 3.55 is the ****tiest gear dodge mass produces for the rams.... your city mpg must be shot to hell.. the 4.56'rs that generally say they get better mpg is because they didnt regear it the same day they got the tires, so they would have noticed a large diff..
but if you take a 4.56 with your current tires vs 3.55 and your current drivers and take a trip going around 70, you will win... nobody has 4.56 and stockers, and nobody has 37" tires with 3.55 so its impossible to compare.....

I have an '02 QC 1500 with 20" wheels and the 4.7 V8. I have owned since new in April 02, and I have always averaged 15.3 mpg. I have 130,000 miles on her and houston is flat with long freeways so i would think i run about 75% highway / 25% city driving. Always 70-75 mph on cruise control on the freeways.

RE: Flue prices...
Once you are rolling and maintaining a steady speed, the weight of the truck and the weight of the wheels doesn't really affect your mileage anymore. All they do is add a small amount to the friction part of the drag trying to slow the truck down. The bulk of the drag (like 90-95%) is still in the wind resistance. The only reason the 20's are more drag at a steady speed than 17's is they are wider, and block more wind.
Stop and go, though, is where that heavy truck and those heavy wheels really pull the mileage down.

I totally agree with you both RamItOne and dreman.
My city mileage is totally shot to SH*T !!!
I get between 9 and 9.5 mpg, even though I keep her under 2000 rpm.
It's got a lot to do with the stop start traffic light system used over here in the UK to control the traffic.
Also the small town roads.
Never mind. I still get to drive my HUUUUGE truck over here in England hee hee hee!
Plus, I run on LPG which is well under half the price of petrol over here.
Financially, due to the much lower price of LPG per liter, it works out at about 35 mpg at about 60-65 mph highway and about 20 mpg in the city.
Not too bad eh???
