Default In-Dash Screen?

I was looking at a pioneer 7" flip out, and someone at the shop told me that the 07's need a computer wiring harness...120 bucks...thats crazy when you can buy a regular harness for 5 bucks...is this just someone trying to get extra money out of me?

Sorry about that. Here is the screen I get. Look at the top and bottom. I don't have any experience with needing this. This is just what I came up with.

I had an 05 blazer before and they said the same thing i needed a specail harness for it to work. I just bought the regular $5 harness and it worked fine, but im not to sure about the dodge though. My friends 06 didnt need one though, 07's may be different.

I just installed a Kenwood Nav unit in my '08 with no harness.... works just fine. Of course, I put in a new amp and everything.... if I were going to use the stock amp, I would need a adapter harness.

What that harness has to do with is the fact that there is no switch power source for the head units in the factory wiring on the newer chrysler vehicles. at least that's how i'm to understand that. It has to do with if you notice when you turn the truck off the radio will continue to work until you open the door. it's something to do with that system and retaining that function. it will work with a standard metra 706502 wiring harness. i'm still trying to fully understand the XSVI harnesses because we are only just starting to deal with the vehicles that have them now.

For Greg the reason they wanted you to get the GMOSO1 wiring harness is because in all 2001 and newer GM vehicles the vehicles stereo speakers are the source of all warning chimes and door chimes. This means that all wiring for those systems runs through the radio. the warning lights themselves will still work if you dont' use the harness but there will be no sound. nor will door chimes and such. plus it's a pain the **** to do it without. I had the pleasure of fixing a newer chevy 3500 duramax that pep boys attempted to install a radio in without the harness. talk about a fun time. that ended up costing the owner about 500 bucks worth of parts and labor. for a 150 dollar radio

I just tapped off of the cigarette lighter for my 12v switched; the radio stays on after you remove the key until you open the door and everything shuts off, just like the stock radio did. The only difference is that my radio doesn't turn on when I remote start my truck, until I put the key in and turn it to "On". I had thought about finding a different source so the GPS could be booting up before I get to the truck, but it looks like you have to hit the legal disclaimer button before it starts looking for satellites anyway.

yea like I said I dunno what the hell it all does honestly, i'm not really looking at doing a radio soon. I dunno if i'll do anything system wise although I've done the math I can fit two 12" JL w3's behind the seats if i remove the plastic tray dealy that is in reg cabs behind the seat. I know that at some time I will be getting the double din bezel and putting in some sort of double din navigations setup. probably an eclipse because they are some of the best and I get them at about 62% off where I work.

plus metra's stupid *** instructions are the most retarded i've ever seen so i can't make any sense of what those harnesses do.

nvm a little google research goes a long way. all that harness does is make it so you don't have to run a switched 12volt wire. it just creates one using an electrical relay from what I can tell to use the constant 12v and give you a constant and switched 12v. that's simply stupid for how much it costs. you can get a 706502 for like 10 dollars and run a switched 12v or spend 70 bux and not run it. hmmmmm for a competent installer what is the best option lol.
