Default 2008 4.7L high output mileage thread

Figured we'd get a thread together for teh guys that have the new 4.7L v8 and just see what you are getting mileage wise. Please hand calculated numbers we all know that the overheads are way over what you actually get
First tank I ran 305 miles on it and used up 20 gallons which hand is about 15.25 mpg. engine had 305 miles on it at the end of that tank. overhead was giving me 16.1 mpg. filled up at 1/8th tank
Second tank filled up today. 279 miles on 18 gallons. which is by hand 15.45 mpg and my overhead was telling me 16.1 again. filled her up at 1/4 of a tank. so far truck now has 590 miles on it total. so over two tanks it is continuing to get better.
I don't beat on the truck but I definately don't baby it. I shift anywehre from 2k-3k depending on what i'm doing. just cruising or accelerating.
If anyone else with a 08 4.7L would like to contribute it would be well worth it to start a log of mileage.

I run about 60hwy/40 city and have gotten an average of 16.4 out of three calculated terms...but I stay on it pretty good, shift around 2300 usually and also have a full CAI and high flow exhaust

I'm assuming that it will get better. I'm about 50 50 for highway and city. but my engine only as 600 miles on it at this point so I don't expect good mileage until at least the first oil change. but i'm looking at it this way lol. I had a jeep wrangler with a 4 cyl that was a dog and it only got 18mpg at best if I was nice to it. lol now i'm getting 15.5 mpg and there isn't one thing that I would rather have that the jeep had. i'll take the slight bit more i pay in gas. I went from 40 bucks a week to like 50 ish. big whoopy.

I've got over 4700 miles on my truck in 3 weeks, and here's what I've found...numbers are according to overhead display, which seems to always read between 0.5-0.8mpg on the high side.

Cruise control on a flat road at 65mph - 16.5 to 17 mpg

65mph on flat road into a 15mph headwind - 15.5 mpg

70 mph on highway - 16 to 16.5 mpg

75 mph on highway - 15 to 15.5 mpg

80 mph on highway - 14 to 14.5 mpg

70-80mph on highway (avg was 74.3mph)with avehicle1-2 car lengths ahead - 18.9 mpg!!!

My driving: 70% highway at 75-90 mph, including one large hill (Pacheco Pass in Central CA), 30% on country roads, often creeping around orchards at 5-15mph with lots of idle time - 13.5-14mpg on the overhead. I actually get closer to 14mpg city/country/orchard driving and closer to 13mpg on my highway run. If I were to stay closer to the speed limit, I get an indicated 15-15.5mpg combined.

Just filled up this morning & did the math 192 miles and added 11.656 gallons = 16.4mpg. Not too bad, I suppose. I generally run about 75mph on the freeway & drive rather conservatively on surface streets.

I can't give you calculated numbers since my wife puts odd amounts in between fillups, but the overhead meter has given us a maximum of 16.5. My wife has run it back down to 15.3 again, though!

The reason your jeep gave u low miles per gallon was prob due to gearing issues, seeing as how jeeps pretty much rules the rocks

my jeep had 4.11 gears and this truck has 3.92. so it's not really a big difference in gearing. not enough to account for less than half the displacment and one third the horsepower still getting equal mileage.
