I'm sorry but if its that much of a big deal to get better gas milage mabye the dodge isnt for you. You should trade in and get a Prius. I hear they get great gas milage. Just a thought if you wanna save a buck per fill up. Dont get me wrong gas prices suck but ditching the spare is a bad thought. And really how much better milage will u get losing 60 - 70 lbs? I live in San Francisco and regular is $4.00 a gallon. My Mega cab has a 34 gallon tank you do the math I never complain, because I knew what I was in for when I bought the truck. And that is crappy milage. I dont know a dodge truck that has good milage. If I wanted a truck that gets good milage I would have got a four banger Toyota. Just remember you gotta pay to play.
I say praisseee hiiiimmmm. I bought my truck knowing that my mileage woudl be aight. to me good mileage is anything above 15mpg. which my truck gets. and i wouldn't trade it for a damn prius. I'd rather walk.

any weight reduction will help more then nothing... the best thing to do to save gas is to make sure that the bed is covered by some sort of either hard or soft cover...
I heard by buddy at school say that the bed cover actually hurts your gas mileage. I'm not sure if it was myth busters or some news report, but he said they proved that no bed cover actually creates two wind currents stacked on eachother (rotating continuously), therefore allowing air to move more freely over the top of the cab. However, adding the cover eliminates the wind current that is originally in the bed, and restricting the ease of air flow over your cab.... Now whether or not you chose to believe this is up to you, I'm not expert at all with aerodynamics but it is an interesting theory!
ive never heard that...

The spare tire thing is a bad idea! Now about the bed cover, I have one, and I did not see any change at all in my mpg.

try simply airing up your ties to max cold pressure, the ride will be a bit more harsh but probly just the same with taking out the spare.

You could save just as much by only filling your tank halfway, instead of all the way full.

In my case, a little personal weight loss would help, too!
That's the first thing that came to mind, for some reason, when I saw "Losing spare tire..." [sm=badidea.gif]Don't remove the one under your truck.

The Mythbusters episode was the test of gate up or down. They proved that gate up works better. It creates the rolling bubble in the bed, allowing the air flowing over the cab to just run off the bubble and away. A tonneau or cab-height cap also smoothesout the air flow.
