myth or fact ???tailgate off adds more drag and messes up the aerodynamic flow..
that is good to know....never knew how that worked, just people saying both sides. but all that does make good sense. when was that mythbusters aired?? lol i watch that most day of the week before bed, never have seen it , im sure i would of watched ! another reason i questioned it , is that those tailgates are heavy!! thought that may take some weight off, but no matter!
instead of watching mythbusters or asking around the best test you could possibly do is run a tank of gas with the tailgate up and one with it down... see which is better... remember mythbusters used an f150 a totally different style truck... that messes with the aerodynamics already... i've heard guys who said they did get better mileage and vice versa...
Tonneau cover did absolutely nothing to my mileage. However after having my BakFlip for about 6 months now, I won't have a truck without one now...
If you've ever driven down the interstate or on a highway (50+ mph) with an empty can or something small and light in the bed, you've probably noticed the air pocket effect of spinning. I know I've seen it many times with an empty can; it jumps around in a circle right behind the cab. If the can hops too high and hits the air going over the pocket, it flies out of the bed. I usually hate to see that happen though, at 50 cents a pound, saving up those cans can make for a fill up of gas after a few months.
Before I had my tonno I had the back window open one day and started driving but the bed had leaves in it and they all came inside. Kind of the same idea as the can.
thats what i'm saying it should make a difference...and according to the math i've done several times it has.not much but it has.....i hate to tell y'all but the mythbusters don't know everything

lol on the ford. ya i agree with the flow of the bed, i always have crap in my truck and thats exactly what it does. it seems that the cover should be alrighty after all!
