I'm going to put a 2" leveling kit on my truck and most likely going to go somewhere to get it installed because I don't have the time or tools right now..what is a good price to expect to pay for having this installed?

 

Your truck would be a torsion bar front suspension right?

I can't help you then. I don't know if it costs more to install torsion keys or to install coil spring spacers. But I paid close to $250 for install and a front alignment.

 

Torsion keys are easy as hell to install. Takes 30 minutes max. Just did it to my buddies truck cause he has torsion bars. Its seriously a bolt a block, take the old one out, slide new one in put the block in and re-insert bolt. easy as hell. I would not pay someone to do it. Because they are gonna try and charge you like $200-$300 to install it when u can do it yourself. It takes a Torsion key removal tool that u can rent from autozone for an hour. I would not reccomend paying for it cause that is something else u can buy for ur truck when it doesnt take that long to install. If you need a DIY guide i can make one for you. or you can get one off the net. Hope this helps you.

 

I would definitely do it myself to avoid getting raped by a high labor cost because I'm only 17 and work part time, I just don't want to screw anything up on the truck if I did it myself..my friend's dad is a mechanic and I asked him to ask his dad if he can put the lift in for me but I just don't know if his dad does that kind of stuff, I'll have to wait and see

Torsion bar are the easiest. Which is what those key lookin things are. Just need the tool and your set. And since u have torsion u cant mess much up...just make sure you get the alignment done afterwards

 

This is an easy one, you can do it with a big "C" Clamp, but EVERY auto parts store has the key removal tool and will rent it to you cheap. It's much easier with the tool.
All you need is that and a socket set.
Basically you put the puller tool on and tighten it enough to take all the pressure off the key bolt (yes, the same bolt you tighten fora "T-Bar Crank") and back the bolt out. Back the tool off and push the torsion bar forward out of the way and slip the old key out. Put the leveling key in where you took the old one out and slide the t-bar back in it. Put the tool back on and tighten just enough to take the weight and put the torsionbolt back in, tighten it to about the same spot it was when you removed it. Take the tool off and one side is done, repeat on the other side.
When you have them both installed, measure the truck on each side and adjust the key bolts to make each side exactly the same. All that's left is to take the truck someplace for an alignment.
You really can't screw this one up!
My guess is, depending on where you live, they'll try to get $300-$400 out of you for this. Might take you an hour, but the dudes at the shop, with the luxury of a lift, will make that kind of money for 20-30 minutes work.

IMO if you can't do this one, you shouldn't own a 4WD truck.

Before you have the kit, I'll try to do the install steps and pics in a DIY if there is not one in that section if you are willing to try it yourself...

 

alright so which keys should i get? the top gun customz keys or the tuff country ones or does it not matter?

 

IMO it doesnt matter. they are all made out of same material for the most part. I went with the cheaper of the 2 just because it really doesnt matter. i think ull be fine with the cheaper. I have the top guns ones and im happy with them
