Default $190 for extra keys !?!?!

2004 Dodge Ram Laramie 4x4 QC 1500

Went to the dealership (not where i purchased the truck) today to get a few extra keys made, was informed it would be $190 bucks for two keys...$60 to program both keys, $50 for each key, and $30 to codethe key to my OEM alarm system. I said forget it and walked....do these prices seem correct ??? $190 for keys that is ridiculous IMO...sorry just had to vent.

You can easily do the programming yourself.

Actually that is pretty reasonable for two keys, as the going rate for any car now is about that for one key.

Yup you must have the security system. They are Sentry keys, they have to be activated. You can go get a key made at wal mart, and they won't be able to start the truck cause they don't have the Sentry in them. You may be able to get the Sentry keys on ebay, get them cut by a locksmith, and program them yourself. Don't be mad, it costs $350 to get ONE Sentry key made for one of our toyotas.

Here is a PDF i got off of a comapny that sells the OEM security system your truck has. Look on page 4. It may be some help with programing the keys yourself.

I found it http://www.leeparts.com/pdf/82208985.pdf

Went through the same thing, but I wised up and bought 2 keys and 2 keyless fobs from a guy on ebay for I want to say around 70 bucks. Took them to the dealer to cut and program, did everything for about 40 if I remember right. So for 2 new keys and fobs it was about 110-120 bucks. Way cheaper than what the dealer wanted for the keys themselves.

yep i paid like $110 for one key and that was just for a programmed grey key. I was told the key with the keyless entry built in was $200+

I have the key that is attached to the fob

when I got new one it was $160 for the key and to have it programed

I was told that it's about $90 for a key that will start the truck but not have the fob on it.

That was about 4 months ago on an '06 ram. I don't see why they are going to charge you to have it programed it takes 3 mnutes.
