ARE Tonneau Helps Milage!
I just had an ARE LSX tonneau installed on my 4x2 Hemi QC w 20s. I only use my truck for commutes to/from work which is about 35 minutes of highway with mild hills. I have a small car to drive around town.
I write down all fillup information and if im good with the throttle, I average about 19.5-20mpg from a tank.(Thiswas before the tonneau). This is some local driving on each end and highway in the middle. The overhead is fairly close to what im writing down.
The trip home is slightly downhill. If I push reset right as I get on the higway and set the cruise at 55mph, I have seen as high as 23.6 mpg on the overhead, but that is RARE.
Since getting the tonneau installed, I have done the same test, but drive with cruise set at 60mpg, and I have consistently been getting 24mpg on the overhead. So Im driving a bit faster and im seeing about a half mpg improvement.
Also, I usually only reset the overhead at fillup and over a two week period of driving see it average about 19.5-20mpg. Now with the tonneau, Im seeing it average out at 21. So I think im averaging about 1mpg more overall.
There also seems to be less wind noise at highway speeds. I know mythbusters did tests on this, with the tailgate down, etc and they did not find improvements. But with an 07 RAM with MDS, it makes a difference and it looks great.
Next upgrade is a K&N drop in filter.
Of course the cover costs $1250, so im not saving any money. It will pay for itself in 7 years.

I think they do help...I have a soft top with a AFE cai im getting like 17-mpg with a mixture of city and some open country roads. And I have the 05 4.7 with no mds...Also might be cus my 2dr longbed is lighter then the quad cabs. And I have 17" wheels also....so idk
