OBD CODE 0420
LOOKING FOR SOME INFO; I HAVE A 05 HEMI 5.7 RAM, I HAVE BEEN THROWING CODES THE FIRST I TOOK CARE OF IT WITH REPLACING THE EGR. JUST THE OTHER DAY ENGINE LITE CAME ON AGAIN.... THROWING 0420 WHICH CAN BE FROM MY UNDERSTANDING NUMEROUS THINGS... FROM O2 SENSORS TO CAT CONVERTER. ... HAS ANY ONE HAD THIS EXPERIENCE... AND HOW MANY O2 SENSORS ARE THERE... 2 OR 4 AND SHOULD ALL OF THEM BE REPLACED. HAVE HEARD BAD THINGS ABOUT BOSCH REPLCMNT SENSORS.... LOOKIN FOR SOME INPUT.
I had o2 sensor problems also in our 04'. I bought 2 and went to replace them. when I had them out, the more I looked at them the more I thought "what the heck, there is no moving parts" so I got a clean rag and a can of brake cleaner and soaked it down and kept wipeing it until it was spotless and took some VERY fine sandpaper and lightly went over each one. I put them back in, had someone clear the codes and no more problems. Lights never came back on. Took the new ones back & got my money back.
Thanks for the info... I will have to give it a try, its worth a shot.... Seems as soon as this truck got close to 60,000 miles I started getting codes. Funny you take care of one thing and then a few thousand miles later .... here comes another one. Luv the truck runs great, just gets annoying after awhile. I took off my egr valve and did the same thing cleaned it ... reinstalled it cleared the code was fine for 2500 miles.. but it came back, finally had to replace the egr.....
would screw with egr and o2/cats. 2,500 miles is a lot between the same code coming back, something made it come back.

No its not the same code The first was a problem with the egr.... that has been resolved... now its a 0420 o2 sensors ect. mileage was way down with the egr valve problem... since replcng mileage is back to normal. egr caused hesitation, stalling out a few times, but it is absolutely fine now. Its just this new code has popped up 0420
