Default 20" rim problem HELP!!!

Hi there, i'm new to this site but i got a 07 ram 1500 hemi, pretty happy all in all with the truck, just got the dual flowmasters in it the other day and it sounds wicked, the rims howeve are another story. i got the truck last november so i've had it around 8 months, now my 20" "chrome" wheels have a grey/silver sediment kinda stuff stuck around the inside of the rim lip that looks like crap, and very hard to remove, i've tried several different solutions with little sucess, now i talked to the local dodge dealer and they agree'd to polish the rims for free which is ok but since it's actually chrome covered plastic bonded to a steel wheel i'm a little sceptical about the outcome, anyone else have this problem, what did you do, i have seen several other trucks with the same problem, what you do to fix it other than getting different rims, and anything you can do to prevent this, it's a really weird thing because it's only around the lip nowhere else on the rim, but i want it fixed, any help would be greatly appreciated!!

The wheels are junk! Mag Chloride they put on the roads in the winter eats the chrome and plastic chrome up! Get real chrome wheels and keep them clean at all times or go with some cool black wheels!

You should be able to take the covers off and get the wheels powdercoated/clearcoated to look like the stock non-chrome wheels.

The stock 20's on my 2003 did the same thing. Some clear plastic crap peeled right off ofthem.

Did you have the chrome ones too? I have the non-chrome 20" wheels. Has anyone experienced any problems with those? I felt the chrome ones on a truck at the dealer and didn't want any part of them.

Personally i think the non chrome 20's look MUCH better than the chrome ones. But if it was me, id end up powder coating the spokes of the rims black anyway. Looks good and would be something no one else has. Just my .02

i say just throw those out and get some new aftermarket ones- black maybe depending on the color of the truck.every one of the 06+ dodges i see in town have those rims either regular or chrome clad. if u go to the dealership, they only sell rams with 20s. It gets pretty boring after a while seeing the same exact style of rims on every single dodge, ugggh!!!!

my black chrome factorys are the same way. they are $800/piece to replace. I replaced one because it was under warranty. I clean my wheels probably twice a week now that its nice out and ive noticed small spots on the other wheels so before my warranty is up im definately getting them fixed.

ya , i actually had to upgrade from stock 17 " to the 20 " oem rims and same problem. the chrome had chipped away in some spots and i tried everything to cover them up but nothing!! lol and it was hell trying to sell them....finally sold the set for $500 with balding tires!! but i probably had 12 people look all referring to the same exact damn chrome spots! so now i have new 20 inch moto metals and damn theyre alot better i think!
