Failed Emissions Yesterday
So yesterday I took my truck in to Jiffy Lube for NC emissions inspection. It's a 2006 Ram 1500 3.7L V6 with aftermarket exahust. Passed in 2007 with no problems.
The inspector pulls me over and says he can't pass this vehicle, because it is missing a catalytic converter. According to his 2008 Emissions reference manual, it says the 3.7L should have 3 catayltic converters. He said I only have 2 installed. I told him it passed last year at the same place with the same exhaust setup. He told me this year they aremandating each inspector toreference the book.
He gave me a number to call the DMV to have them check the page in the book to make sure it's not a typo. I am going to call the Monday to see what they say.
I boughtthe truck inMay 2007 from a Chrysler dealerwith the aftermarket exhaust already installed.
Does anyone know if it should have 2 or3 converters? If it's supposed to have 3, I think I may sue the dealer for selling me a certified preowned truckthat it not street legal.
Anyone have a suggestion?

to answer your question ive never seen 3 cats on our trucks. i know 94-98 mustangs have 4 cats and 2 resonators. so it could be possible to have 3.

I think Big#44's post sums it up. Thanks man.
However I did call the DMV to double check the manual. It does reference three converters. The guy thought it was kind of funny that the inspector actually referenced the manual. He said, "The inspectors hardly do that." I told him I must have had a boy scout.
I thought for some reason this was going to be an expensive fix, but apparently it will cost about $150. I don't want another cat, but I'll just buy a high flow one for $70. Still pisses me off about the dealer selling it to me like that.
