MPG towing a trailer?
I have a popup that is around 3500 and my mileage is not wonderful but its about on par. I get about 11-13 on the highway but thats also running around 75 and 80 most of the way. Hammer is right your big trailer is mainly a HUGE wind catcher. Your not only pulling the trailer but your fighting the wind so I would say you are right were you are going to be.

My truck is an 04 Ram half tonwith the 5.7L Hemi. I recently bought a 27 foot travel trailer. I weighs approx 5500lbs. Without towing it I get 14mpg in the city and 17mpg hwy. Then it drops to 7-8mpg when towing the trailer. I'm just wondering if this normal or if anyone else tows a comparable trailer what mpg are you getting?

I towed a U-haul 4x8 box trailer across Canada recently and was getting around 12mpg according to the overhead. And that was at best. Then again, I had two motorcycles in the box of the truck, both cruisers with windshields. That sure didn't help I'm sure. Of course, I don't think I've ever seen more than 15mpg in any situation, and I have an 04 QC with the 5.7L as well. Am I doing something wrong here?
