KN Oil Filters
I don't think any oil filter can prevent the oil from draining into the pan when the engine is off, and they don't have any magical properties that keep the engine lubed. The most they could do is do a better job at filtering the oil that passes through them.
I agree, I don't really buy into the claims about preventing dry startup. However, I recently read an independant review that picked them as one of the better ones along with Mobil 1, Wix and Purolator.
BTW, Fram was tested as dead last in filtration tests...

The only thing they can do is have a superior bypass valve. During start up that is how the oil can pass through the filter so quickly.
The filter is a bottle-neck in the oil system and that valve allows oil to pass through faster during high PSI. When you are running high RPM's lots of oil is passing right through the valve and not the filter.

The last filter I had was a napa gold (basically a wix) and this one is a K&N. To be honest there really is not much of a difference at all in my opinion. As long asyou have a quality (non-fram) filter you will be fine. I haven't had any oil problems with either filter during any part of the season or under any driving situation. Either way I belive that you get what you paid for and when you use quailty materials your truck and wallet will thank you in the long run.
