Load range D vs. E tire question...
Was looking to change tires soon, not very happy with the stock BFG Rugged Trail on my truck. Stock range is "E", but I've found some "D" rated tires that are 285's vs. the stock 265's. I run all 4 corners at 70psi right now and it's actually not all that bouncy without a load in it...my question is, will a D rated tire ride the same with similar mpg as compared to an E rated tire at the exact same pressure? Didn't know if the extra ply's would make a difference in ride quality or mpg.....both max load ratings are actually the same with both D and E tires, just different psi at max. Your thoughts?
70PSI? Wow, I hope you always have a full load or are always towing something! That is a very high PSI for standard driving! Unless I am towing something or have a full bed, I have mine at 35 in the front and 32 in the rear!
stock BFG's max rating of 80PSI "E" load...now the "D" tire max is 65...it's an 8 ply tire vs. the 10 ply of "E" tire. Was wondering what the difference, if any, if I ran a D tire or E tire at say 65psi if the load carrying ability were the same for either tire at the same PSI?
Obviously the load carrying ability would be lower on the D tire....E is made for Hauling....
You may like theD Tire better, itshould ride smoother with the correct pressure....less bounce.
My pops has the BFG's and we run 70PSI's in them. They flat out suck....Made for hauling...not comfort.
