2003 Dodge Ram 1500 w/ 4.7 towing capacity
Help from anyone, Im new to this site, I am in the process of purchasing a travel trailer that weighs 6300lbs. Im wondering what my towing capacity of my truck is. Im not sure of the gear ratio. I had a hitch installed at the dodge dealer. I have the 20" wheels if that helps anyone. the hitch says 500 tounge weight and 5000 trailer. W/ weight distributing hitch its 1000/10000. I am planning on purchasing a weight distributing hitch and electric brakes. Will my truck tow this trailer. Thanks
Is it a 4x4 or 4x2? Quad Cab or regular?
Check out this link to see. You should find out what your ratio is in order to figure it out, but in any case, it looks like you are very close to the limit.

According to that chart:
1500 Quad Cab 4.7L V-8 6,350 d,h*
(d=4 or 5 speed automatic, h=3.92 axle, *=20" wheels)
So I would say no, because you will easily have more than 50 added pounds to the claimed weight of that trailer for instance, your luggage, bedding, food, etc.

Your truck will tow this trailer for sure. But will it do so over the type of long haul you would expect with a travel trailer, with no adverse effect on the tranny and other parts of the truck? Probably not. My bet is you'll also see single digit fuel economy while trailering this thing.
A couple of times a year, no more than a few hundred miles per trip, maybe. Anything over that and you need to be looking at a 2500 series truck and preferrably a CTD...
