Default 22 mpg!

My little truck died yesterday (fuel pump), so I have the wife's Dodge Ram for a couple of days. I have a 65 mile commute each way to work, so I hit the reset on the avg. fuel mileage and hit the freeway. At a constant 65 mph, it was reading 21.8 mpg! Then I dropped it to 60 mph for grins, and after a few minutes it reached 22.1 mpg! That's amazing for a truck this large! I know the meter is not all that accurate, but anything over 20 mpg is pretty good in my eyes!

yea they really aren't that bad on the highway. at those speeds 20 mpg really isn't unheard of even on a quad cab, especially if you have 2wd and 4.7. maybe it's time to upgrade that little ford of yours?

Did you reset the mpg display just before?? If you did it will start very high and slowly go down. It takes an average over a period of time, wont change as you change you rpm/ throttle. Drivining three hours last weekend each direction I know I got 14 mpg because I did the simple math, but the dsiplay took both trips to move .7 mpg..

I did a long trip recently at 60mph and got almost 500miles from a 24gal fillup. There was a good bit of stop/start too.

Actually it started low, close to my wife's average, which was 13.9 before I reset it! She does very little freeway driving, and she has a lead foot on top of it! It started low and went up until it topped out at 22.3 or so, then went down, then up, then stabilized on 21.8 for about 15 or 20 miles. Then I dropped the speed and it crept up to 22.1, again for quite a few miles.

It doesn't start high unless you're coasting down a hill or something along those linesas you reset it. It has to give you your instant mpg at firstin order to build an average over time. If I reset while on the freeway it'll go from 16-17 (my city mpg) to 24ish and depending on how much I change speed and hills I go overit'll rest in the 23 range.

If you're only getting 14mpg on the freeway then you either have a 5.9 or your truck needs a good tune up. You could also be getting excess drag from the differentials/brakes...just athought.

Mine is great on the freeway. Almost 22 for a recent 100 mile trip at 70 mph. Of course around town it's a different story more like 13 in true stop and go. It takes a lot of energy to get the huge beast under way. 07 QC Hemi long bed.
