Not running like it should
I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4, 4.7L and experiencing problems with acceleration. It feels like its having a hard time getting off the line when leaving a stop.On the highway, I can have the accelerator almost to the floor, but its hardly picking up speed.I've had it looked at and did a tune up, had the transmission looked at,but its still having the same problem. Also, alot of fuel consumption. I've been told it could be a fuel filter, or catalyctic converter problem???
Could be either of the two, but most often the culprit on Hemi's is a clogged TB intake. Could be the problem with your 4.7 as well. Causes what you are experiencing and the nice thing is that it's easy to clean out yourself...
CLEANING OUT THE TB IS EASY. UNHOOK THE INTAKE TUBE REMOVE THE PLASTICCOVER OVER THE TB.. DON'T FORGET TO UNPLUG ANY ELECTRONIC SENSORS THAT HAVE TO DO WITH THE INTAKE.THEN READ THE DIRECTIONS ON THE CAN.
Pull the throttle body off (3 bolts if I remember right), put it in a 5 gallon bucket and go to town with brake cleaner (I found it to work better than TB cleaner). Make sure you get it clean where the plate contacts the TB. I had build there. Wipe it off, bolt her on, connect everything. Takes me about 30 min start to finish. Nice running improvement.

Yea, I clean mine once a year, and I only average about 8k a year on my truck. It's always pretty caked up, so if you are putting much more than 12k a year on it I'd suggest cleaning it every six months...
A lot of that crap is from the EGR. You get a dirty engine but cleaner emissions...go figure.
JCAbiles, Sounds like a normal pre-084.7 to me
.Change the fuel filter since you haven't...it might not be the prob but it needs to be changed anyway. Also like the others said, clean the TB...if your engine isn't getting enough air the air/fuel mixture will go rich and you'll lose power.
The cat/s will usually throw a p0420/p0430low efficiency code if they not working right or clogged. There could be a lot of things wrong really...lazy pre-cat o2 (might not throw a code yet), jumped timing chain, worn cam lobes (doubt it on a 2003). What did your mechanic say?
Are you gettinga raw fuel smell or any out the tailpipe?
