HELP!!! OIL PRESSURE!! FIXED
my next question for you guys is.....now that i have cleaned my engine and im now running quaker state, 10w-30, what do you guys think of me going back to royal purple (a synthetic)? and if you think i can do it, how long do you think i should wait before going back to it?
I'd bet your initial problem was caused (well not really caused, let's say exposed) by your switching to RP probably loosening up all that sludge. It may have been a blessing, because had you continued to run dyno oil, it may not have been exposed until the day the engine did like the ones on the Castrol commercials...
well i got a case of RP 10w-30. i plan on draining a little, like a half quart of oil out, then replacing it with seafoam for about a week. then im going to change back over to the royal purple. i will check my oil very well. but i checked my oil on my dipstick last weekend and the oil looked brand new. QS is a yellowish color and it was the same on the stick. im not saying the oil is perfect in the engine, but it looked pretty good. and really if i ever lost oil pressure again, its not something i want to do again, but if needed i can clean it out again if worst comes to worst.
MM--I wouldn't worry too much about draining any oil if you're only adding 1 can of Sea Foam. A lot of it will gas off through the EGR system while you're running it in the oil.
I do the same frequently with no adverse effect.
If the oil looks great after the week is up, its time to add the RP with a new filter---of course.
The check the RP after a week. I won't be surprised if you bring some crud down from on top of the heads-----so keep an eye on it for a while, and change the oil at 3k for the first few times----see how it does
Good Luck!!!!!

They are both above average filters take your pick. I've always used the Mobil 1 or Wix, but was gonna try a K&N when I changed the oil in the truck about two months ago, but NAPA was running a sale on their Gold filters (wix) and I couldn't pass up a sale...
I don't know about the K&N but from what I've read, The wix is rated number one at trapping particles, with mobil1 running a close second. You can't go wrong with either.
I use mobil1 cause they're easy to get.

Hey MMSTAR Glad it all worked out for you with the cleaning of your oil pan and pick-up tube. So we've got a 2005 QC with a 4.7, we got it with 20,000 on it but now has 57,000. I'm not sure if I'll have the problem you had but I don't want to. I guess a little preventive maitainance before it gets to that point can't hurt. I've always done Synthetic blend change which I usually do these things myself but the wife went to Jiffy lube and they did a "full" synthetic before I came home on leave. I'm going to stick with the full systhetic. A few things I was wondering about. Would a dual oil filter set up help with the filtration. I was planning on this along with a oil cooler. And how long do you run the Seafoam in with the oil to clean it out? Or should I go with the Risolne with the synthetic? Again nice thread about the only one I read through ALL of the posts. BTW how's th truck running?
well, i got royal purple along with a Mobil1 filter back on today. hopefully that'll be the last ordeal and it will continue to have synthetic in it for now on.
my dads friend also mentioned, i did not try it, but he said it works....he said empty out half of your oil, then replace half of it with diesel. let it idle for a few minutes, dont rev it or give it throtlle, just let it idle and the engine will be clean as a whistle. anyone ever heard of this? any truth to it? sounded like a good idea, but i wasnt about to just go ahead and pour diesel into the motor

Yea, I've heard of it.
I wouldn't do it myself. Just don't really know how one of these newer engines with all the different materials used would react.
Personnaly, I'd leave it alone until I knew it wouldn't damage anything.
