If you aren't pulling lots of weight, is there any advantage to a 2500 over a 1500?

1500 I.F.S
2500 optional 4.10 rearend
1500 optional 3.83 rearend (i think)
2500 standard 34 gallon tank
1500 optional 34 gallon tank
Bottom line is when I priced my truck out online I did the build your own truck thing on the
dodge website, the 2500 was only $500.00 more than the 1500 for the similarly equiped
trucks. only difference really is a lot of the options for the 2500 come standard on the 2500.
But most importantly if you go for the 2500 you can step up to the [sm=hail.gif]POWER WAGON!!!!![sm=hail.gif][sm=happybounce.gif]

you can get the 4.10 in the 1500's
also, about the power wagon, it comes standard with a 4.65 rear end![Wink](https://dodgeforum.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif)
I remember reading somewhere that the cummins equiped power wagon wasnt liked too well mainly because the engine was TOO snappy with throttle responce.
I know with my 4.10's if I'm doin 50 and bury the throttle in 6th, I'm doin 80 just as fast as some sports cars. (or atleast it feels like it) amazing what 30 pounds of boost will do to an engine

the off road package on both 1500 and 2500's come with 4.10's. thats the only option on the 1500's where you can get 4.10's. on the 2/3500's it is an option. 3.93 standard and 4.10's optional.
however one may be able to go the 3.55's on the 2/3500's. but I doubt they would be able to withstand much more than 10K

The only reason I was looking at the 2500 was to consider the diesel. But that added close to 5k to the price. I went with the 1500 with 4.7. I pull a trailer full of wood and will load the box (6'6") with wood to a weight level I am comfortable with depending on the road surface and conditions I have to drive home on. Generally, I am guessing 1.5 to 1.8k total weight in wood. Because of this, I decided on the 5 sp auto tranny, 3.92 rear end with anti-spin lockout, and the tow/haul package. I have not been disappointed, plenty of low end torque and a nice ride when empty or full.

3.55 or 3.92 on the 1500's...
This is as basic as it gets, 2500 rougher ride than 1500 due to heavier duty suspension. The Cummins 600 only available in the 2500 and 3500's is awesome MPG wise not to mention power. I was getting an average of 20 mpg in mine. However the Cummins is like a $5800 option. If your not going to be towing cattle or race cars, or things like that, stick with the 1500. Rides better and its cheaper to maintain than a diesel if thats the way youd look at it. Me Im a diesel guy. Signed mine over with tears in my eyes!

NO 4.10s on the 1500. My offroad truck has the 3.92 rear end. The 3.55 is the other optional rear end on the 1500. Also, on the 1500 if you get 20" tires, you automatically get the 3.92. However, on the previous generation Ram, w/the offroad package, you DID get the 4.10 rear end.
