thanks hemipwr, yeah i like the stock rims, i was actually thinking about gettting then powder coated either black or that gun metal colour, and just put some wheel spacers on.

Hammer and Nitto i priced out some gears and Auburn lsd and they want $2200 with install and i talked them down $300..... that seems kind of steep. they say i have a few days to think about it.

I see that you have 37x12.5's on there. I was wondering that when using that set up if you would be able to clear a 37x13.5 on 17in rims with 4.5in of backspacing?

As my truck is now i dont think i would be able to fit the 37/13.5/17's, and i think with the 4.5in offset the tires would probably hit the front plastic piece under the bumper and probably the mud guards. but if you took those off you could probably fit them. ill get some pictures up to show how close my tires are right now to those 2 areas then maybe try and see what would have to be done.

Yea, that's a little out of line, they must be really proud of their work. Check around, usually with a little talking down, you should find that it's about a $1400-1500 job with the Auburn LSD and about a $1500-1600 job with a Detroit TruTrac at most reputable shops.
Andworth EVERY penny...

well i have done some more shopping for some gears and lsd but no luck $2200 is the cheapest out of all of them. Another quick question there is no way i would fit a spare this size in the original place under the truck right? im going to be buying another tire just so i dont have to drive all lop sided with the stcok 265 if i get a flat tire. any ideas?

Check www.4wheelparts.com for the gears and LSD you were looking at and see if they were cheaper then where you got quoted $2200?? If it is cheaper here see if they will price match, and if not then buy it here and just have them install?? Check your options!

Try here for some spare tire ideas! Just a place to see what is out there! Not sure if they are by any means the cheapest!

Well i did it finally, ordered some 4:56 gears and the Auburn LSD, also some pocket style fender flares, and some nfab steps. it took the guy a lot of covincing but he finally dropped his price from $2200 (just for gears and lsd) to $2000 for the whole shabang gears, lsd, fender flares, and side steps, and plus installing my 4in rancho lift.

See a little elbow grease and you can get pretty much any thing you want! With the market the way it is, you show them the slightest concern that you will take your business else where and they will drop there price! They don't just want your business, they NEED your business!

You will have absolutely NO REGRETS on your gears! Just remember that you must drive like a grandma after getting them installed! FOLLOW THESE GUIDLINES AND YOU WILL BE OK!

What is the break-in proceedure for a new set of gears?
All new gear sets require a break-in period to prevent damage from overheating. After driving the first 15 or 20 miles it is best to let the differential cool before proceeding. I recommend at least 500 miles before towing. I also recommend towing for very short distances (less than 15 miles) and letting the differential cool before continuing during the first 45 towing miles. This may seem unnecessary but I have seen many differentials damaged from being loaded before the gear set was broken in.
I also recommend changing the gear oil after the first 500 miles. This will remove any metal particles or phosphorus coating that has come from the new gear set.

One thing you do want to do is get your speedo callibrated. The tranny has it's own computer that does who knows what but will do the wrong things based on the wrong speeds if you don't....
