Change Power Outlet from Always On or Add On/Off Switch for Power Outlet
I just bought my Ram last Thursday (and am VERY happy with it so far).
I noticed that all 3 power outlets (including the cigarette lighter) in my Ram are always on. Is there a way to change this so that one (perhaps the one in the center console) is only on when the engine is on? Or, would the way be to cut the wires and add a switch to it (which I don't want to do)?
What I'm wanting to do is toconnect an MP3 fm transmitter that uses a flash drive to the outlet. While the vehicle is on, the mp3 player is running. If I want to listen to it, then I switch the station on my radio to the appropriate frequency. That way I don't ever have to deal with connecting my main mp3 player and dealing with cords, and hiding it when away, etc. And, if I want to change the type of music, then I simply swap out the flash drive on the unit. Easy enough (in theory). I don't have the mp3 player/fm transmitteryet.
Any ideas?

ok well the only way to change it is to find an accesory some where in the truck usually the sterring column run the wire to the lighter instead of the positive on the lighter thats the only way to do it unless like u said the on off switch
I'm glad they changed that. My ligher in my 08 is key-on powered only. I use it for my radar detector. The power points are always hot.
