Default Chrome Intake

Hey, I've kind been thinking about putting one of those ebay cai on my truck. I have an 06 with the large intake box, not the little one like the 07s have. Anyway, should i go with the full cold system that deletes this box, or the one that just deletes the old airbox and intake tube, but hooks up to the box intead?

i have one off ebay...it's the one that comes off of the resonator. i am thinking about getting the full one. i didn't at first because i didn't wanna mess with the air temperature sensor...and since i knew i was buying a cheap($) intake, i didn't just wanna assume that they already had a spot in it to put the air-temp sensor. so, i just spent $60 and got the one that attaches to the resonator. best thing about it is that it cleared up that side of the engine aby, by removing the stock air box.

edit: you'll notice the blue hose it came w/ is kinked. but i've since replaced it with some black heater hose...so it actually makes the tight bend, as opposed to folding.

i think the one like you have is the better looking of the two, but i didnt want to get the lesser of the two just to save 20 bucks. btw, did you notice any power gain? I noticed a tiny bit with the muffler, but if i could that gain again it'd probably be worth 50 bucks, especailly since the muffler and install was like 90 bucks, but hey, i like to hear my truck over other peoples. drove an 05 the other day that was all stock, and it was weird, no noise when i turned the key

i guess i'll pull apart the resonator today, and see if its really restrictive or not. i think it looks fine on there, but if i had the small one like the 07s, i would definetly get the full one. i put in a k&n drop in in, and at first made a whistling noise, but not a sucking one, but it went away after driving on backroads a few times.

still in indecision

I had an ebay CAI for awhile, one that plugged into the resonator. Meh. I replaced it with the Spectre CAI from Airram's website, it's a full intake no resonator and it made a world of difference. It's $160, cheaper than a lot of other CAIs, but definitely worth it over some $60-70 ebay piece of trash.

well, i couldnt get the lid off the resonator, and it seemed glued on or something, so i didnt want to break it, but just by pulling off the intake hose, it looks pretty clean in there. i think i could see where the throttle body was, and the rest of it was pretty much just air space (which would quiet it down). from reading posts, most people say they felt a big difference with the full cold intake style, but i cant find any posts about whether or not the style that leaves the resonator on makes any difference or not. most of the airaid, and k&n type intakes delete the resonator. so im thinking that the full cold is probably the way to go, even if i dont want to admit itl.

Before i go commit to buy, did you notice any difference in installing your intake Derricksmash?

what about that tube from airaid, I was lookin at those and it says it fits our truck on their website, its the modular intake tube for like $109 or somethin. That and maybe a really nice drop in or just stick a cone on the end.

why spend a hundred bucks on a piece of plastic tubing when i can get a whole aluminum intake with a k&n filter for 80?

id just need to get a pre filter that fits over the k&n because of the nasty roads i live on. checked my air filter, and it was DIRTY, and its only been about 5-6k miles at the most since i put the new k&n on, was covered in dust and full of bugs and other goodies

I dunno, I think I'll prolly opt for the hundred dollar one cause I don't like the way the ebay one looks and i'm gonna have the truck for at least 8 or 9 years so I might as well make sure I like anything I do to it.
