chirping noise at 500 rpm in Drive when stoped?? (not belt)
I had my belt replaced to get rid of a chirping noise that is only at 500 rpm in drive when stoped. It will also make one loud chirp when turning off the engine. My dealer isnt sure what it is and thinks it may be the water pump?? We thought it was the belt but that didnt change the noise. The sound goes away above 500 rpms. Then when coming to a stop light the motor settles back down to 500 rpm and chirp, chirp, chirp. Any ideas?
well its a slight stretch but my ford did the same thing had NO idea what it was changed the belt all the idler pulleys and nothing...then 3 months later my alternator wasent charging right so i swaped it out and figures that was the chirping...no more chirping after i changed the alternator...so maybe have autozone or something hook up to it and make sure its charging
It does sound like the bearing on something. It could be anything such as the water pump, pulleys, A/C, or alternator, but I would get a second opinion before starting to just change things.
In my old Dakota, I had the fan clutch go, and that created a really annoying squeak. I would check out the various pulleys to see if there's any play in them. With my fan clutch it was very wabbly and easy to tell that was the problem.

They used a stethoscope and listened around while it was making the noise. They thought it was the waterpump but not 100% sure. I am not sure why it would make the noise only at 500 rpm in drive and on shut off when the motor comes to a stop? When I have it in park it doesnt make the noise? Its under warranty so I guess changing out the waterpump wont harm anything.
