..I didn't purchase my qc truck to get good gas mileage...and i modded(efan, cam, headers, catback exhaust, cai, 180 tstat, gears, amsoil synthetics, programmer an piggyback programmer, partial custom tune to get the fuel trims close to dead on)most of the aspects of the motor to get it to go really fast (13.6 sec 1/4..no spray or forced air induction).... with all that said, the bonus or byproduct of all this is that it made my engine run really efficient. I commute 25 miles (1 way) to work with time spent almost equally between street driving and highways. When I pulled in this morning my overhead mileage gauge showed I had 22.4 mpg..on the highway it got as high as 24+ mpg....

I have a 2008 1500 Mega Cab with Hemi, and only average 10.5 mpg. I only have around 1600 miles on it, and no mods... just a K&N drop in. I know my mpg will be worse than quad cab or reg cab because of the heavier weight, but should I expect it to be this bad? I don't really get on the throttle a lot, generally keep in under/around 2000 rpm but dowind it up once in a while - not often.

Tire pressure is right on and I only use Shell 89 octane.

Could there be something mechanical going on here, or do I need to just get over it?I didn't expect good mileage, just not this bad.

10.5 is not unheard of on a Mega, I think the norm on here is around 11 depending on your rear-end gears... You're a lot heavier and have the Absence of the MDS...

the best mod for you is going to be maybe 4.56's in your rear, however that might hurt your Highway mileage, but should get you some better numbers around town...

Thanks. I doroughly half of my driving on the highway and do some light recreational towing (5000lb travel trailer), so would hate to bring highway mpgdown.

Thoughts on what the Airaid CAI and/or Magnaflow cat-back dual might do for me (aside from the obvious power gains)?
