Their are pros and cons to dealer vs private, the real key is to find a clean ONE owner truck. One thing to keep in mind, 3rd Gen rams up through 05 have a 7/70 powertrain whether you are buying dealer or private.
Yes, I have experienced both sides, but I just got really burned on privately. I'd rather spend alittle bit more and have the peice of mind with a warranty and an avenue to go to when the sh*t hits the fan.

thanks for the warranty info, its transferrable I am assuming.

what about the lifetime powertrain warranties?

You wont regret going from a 2nd gen to a 3rd gen, the extra power and four doors are awelcome upgrade. The only thing i dont like about the 04' compared to my 98' is i now have a truck payment. The 02-05 interiors are pretty nice with the laramie package, satin silver trim and no plain-looking cloth, rather two tone leather. If you canafford itand dont mind the looks, mds hemi, and budget interiors of the new style rams (06+), your best bet would be to go that route. Oh I get about 4 mpg better with my hemi than my old 5.9 could manage, and moves with much more authority. My 98' was a great truck overall, but with all the problems that you have had with your ram i too would be looking for a different truck...good luck !!!

I am looking at getting an 06 Ram, reason being the front end uses coil springs rather than the torsion bar.
Anyone have any issues?
My 2nd gen just took another $577 from my wallet, and its just killing me. I found an 06 with 50K, and I can get an extended warranty for another 50K miles. But at 50K what should I expect to go/fail?
how are the brakes? I have heard mixed. I plan on towing a 25'+ camper around 6000lbs.
What about the heating/cooling in the mega cab? I heard its barely adequate...

Thanks! OH, and wish me luck, just hoping all my finances come together enough to make the change.

Personal opinion: screw the mega cab, look into an 09 crew. Look out of state for some good deals. Id bet you can come close in coparison $ wise.

Mega cab is HUGE! LOL and i agree, if i could find a new 09 crew for 12,8 id be in it as well...id assume youd be looking in the 25K mark depending on the deal...just a guess.

If its an 06 non mega, then its a quad cab. Crew cab for dodge didnt come out til 09. Quad cab is the equivilant to extended cab for ferd n chiby.
